2014+ owners having issues with their truck?

Recommended Posts

No disrespect to anyone, but seriously do you really need your vehicle to drive for you? I've read all these complaints about the crash warning system not reacting the way the driver expects it to, and I just don't get it.

Personally I would not want the alert or automatic braking system on any of my vehicles. People should be aware enough of their surroundings and alert enough to anticipate adverse situations. That's not to say that things can't/won't still happen, but I find it ridiculous that we've become so dependent on technology to think and do for us that we've must rely on it as opposed to just being responsible for our own driving and actions.

Before I got this truck, the first thing I did when I got into my sports car was turn off the traction control so the vehicle didn't take away the driving experience for me. I would've done the same for the ABS if possible. As far as the lane change warning, if you're drifting out of your lane then you're obviously either texting, messing with the NAV/stereo, or falling asleep and are too tired to be driving safely to begin with.

C'mon folks, drive responsibly and don't rely on some computerized algorithm to make these basic decisions for you. Sorry, not trying to hijack your thread but it just seems like a silly problem to debate.

Here are my issues I've had with my 2014 Sierra All Terrain in the first 2 months of ownership:

1. Transmission shifting seems to get confused about what gear it should be in at lower speeds and often jolts hard when coasting and then slightly accelerating, or causing a downshift. It makes a rather harsh engagement.

2. When using the Bluetooth phone feature (iPhone 5S) taking an incoming call, once you hang up it will not convert the main screen back to the audio screen. It stays stuck on the phone screen.

2a. When on the phone and receiving another incoming call, it allows me to switch to the new call, but will not convert back to the original call when trying to switch back. It just hangs up on both calls.

3. Front speaker blown. The Bose sound system is great in this truck for a stock system, however even though I've never cranked it all the way up it already has a badly distorted and rattling front driver's side speaker.

4. Advertised mileage is nowhere close to accurate. The only way to achieve the advertised 16/22 would be to cruise at 55mph on the highway on completely flat roads. The best I've achieved is 20.4, but on my most recent trip the total average of mostly highway driving was 17.8. I doubted the numbers advertised before I bought the truck but didn't know they'd be as far off as they are. But then again, it's a 4x4 4 door truck so I really shouldn't have high expectations to begin with...

5. Leather side bolsters on the All Terrain package that look like a carbon fiber pattern scratch very easily. They look great but I fear they will not hold up long term. My friend put a huge gash in mine within the first 24 hours I owned the truck. Looks like it was likely from a jean rivet, however the seat material should be durable enough to withstand better. The cushioning inside also does not seem very sturdy as I've seen the seat shape crinkle and divot when someone large sits in them. It doesn't hold its shape well. After coming from an AMG Mercedes I guess I'd grown accustomed to better leather quality and durability. GM leather has always been subpar but I expected better from a $50K GMC truck.

6. Rear seatbelt on driver's side, the plastic housing above the seat is cheaply made and falls apart every couple of days. Nothing is broken on the casing, it's just poorly designed and made with the quality you'd expect in a Kia or the likes.

Mine would also, until I had the spring flapper thingamagig removed when I had an 18" MF muffler installed. Fires immediately no matter how cold it is.

OK. Thanks for the info. I'm gonna see if I can rig it open, before I decide to remove it.

I am having starting ussues with my new 2014 Silverado which I bought just after Christmas. It has 700 miles on it and has been in the shop 3 times. It has been in the shop over a week this time. I am not tearning down the product. I am a long time GM owner. Have had 15 GM vehicles since 1960 and this is the first that I have ever really worried about. I posted this before New Years and the dealership has not received the part and claims the usual channels ar out. They say it needs a new fuse block.

I replied to you post from New Years above post #693. Did you happen to see that? Post number is on the right in the same line as your name.

I just purchased a Silverado LT last week. Prior to that, I did a ton of reading on this site, and learned a lot about it before and while researching what I wanted. Pretty basic, a 2014, 4x4 All Star edition and everything that were "must haves" on my list.

Here is my list:
The truck I purchased was a service loaner, so it had some miles on it, but still new and in prefect shape. I got what I feel like was a good deal and I'm happy with the financing the dealer got me. Oddly enough, truck was built 6-11-13 and had a sticker price of just over 42. Build the same truck as of a week ago it it comes out to 45, go figure.

It doesn't shake on the highway.
The dash isn't warped
I have the 3.08 gears and they don't feel sluggish to me at all
The 4wd knob doesn't "hum" when I put it into 4wd
The lights around the knobs don't light up, I'm kind of glad actually. There is enough going on around there all lit up already.
My seats are cold after I use the remote start, but I don't have heated seats.....so I kind of expect that. I leave my climate control on auto and when I get in, its's 72 degrees, just like I left it and the rear window is defrosted, all on its own.
I left the dealership and went on a road trip for about 500 miles. I only averaged about 15mpg, but it's cold, so I warmed it up a good hour combined over the entire weekend. Had about a 20 mph headwind at least half the trip, was in snow and 4x4 a good time of that as well. The mpg that the on-star app shows for lifetime is 18mpg. The "best" when I got it was 23.3 mpg, so I know it's capable of it for some period of time, but with the wind and winter gas, not this time.

It's a cool truck, rides nice, works well and isn't plagued by problems I thought I might have and almost stopped me from buying more than a couple times and looks awesome. I'm glad I bought it and I'm happy with the quality. I fully understand those being frustrated that are having problems. I was in the same boat with an 04 F-150. However, don't let the talk scare you. All that bad stuff, while really really frustrating and disappointing, isn't the majority of the trucks out there.

Not to be rude, but seriously Chris, how can anyone decipher this message? Please use some basic punctuation and spell check so that your message can be read and understood. I had to read it three times before even coming close to figuring out what the heck you're saying.

If my interpretation is correct, it sounds like you have "aftermarket" wheels on the truck and the dealer is calling you out for that. I can't blame them there. It would seem if the shake started after putting on the aftermarket wheels, then your first step would be to go back to the wheel seller/installer. However, based on your post, I may not be understanding your situation completely. Please clarify.

Middle of December Jonathan and Jennifer posted that gm is working on lights on knobs resolution. Haven't heard anything from either one since.
