2014+ owners having issues with their truck?

Recommended Posts

Yes, I have a 2014 Silverado Double Cab. This has happened to me several times. Once the fuel nozzle came flying out shooting gas all over. Took the truck to the dealer, the claim 'must be the service station pumps'. I have filled at that station (Costco) hundreds of times on my '99 Silverado, no problems until the 2014 Silverado. Had to "drip" feed it last fill.

Yes the stop pumping has happened to me several times too and at different stations. It acts like it is full but definitely not since I have always had less than a quarter tank in it. It seems like after I get a few gallons in it that I can then set it to pump itself but not at the furthest notch. It gets annoying to drip feed it for sure and takes a while to fill it up. So far only once has it popped out and spilt gas all over...what a mess!

From glancing through this and a few other threads, it seems to me more Silverado's are having issues than Sierra's. Did anybody else pick that up? My Sierra is a Mexico model, and I haven't had any of the issues I see being discussed (alignment, vibrations, lighted knobs, loose seats, weird noises, wind noise, not taking gas !?). In fact, I can only find one thing to complain about and that is the stereo sound (not Bose) is pretty weak. Want to add an amp(s) and my subs and upgrade speakers, but no way for the DIY guy to do it yet (lack of parts/info on the street).

Perhaps someone should make a voting thread with current issues (like those I listed) and have all of us vote on if we are having them or not? That way, we could see if this is really widespread or maybe just a single instance.

There is a 3 to 1 ratio on average of Silverado's sold over Sierra's. So yeah, it will be skewed in shear whole numbers. As to percentage of each sold having issues, well that remains to be determined.

The crew cabs are made in Mexico and the double cabs in Ft Wayne IN. However both trucks Chevy and GMC are run on the same lines. My Sierra dbl cab was made in Ft Wayne and I have had no issues so far as well.

Well on this site, there are more sierra owners (so far). There is a poll somewhere, look it up....

However, in the real world, you are correct. Silverado out sells the sierra.

I'm having starting issues with my new 2014 Silverado. Purchased at the end of November. Would not start first morning after sitting all night. Had to be towed back to dealer. Also has not started in parking lots on 2 occassions. It did start after several attempts both times. The last time it would not run at over 2500 RPM's. It is at the dealrers now. Has been there for 3 days. Dealer says its the fuse block. GM was out of those and they had to order from another dealer. Is anyone else having these issues?

I've owned many GM trucks: Surburbans, Yukon, and PU's.

I have seen the poll and as of this writing, there was only 119 people (67 Sierra, 52 Silverado) who responded. A poll is just that, a poll of people who decide to actually partake and not exact statistical data of the membership here. Also, it can be skewed as anybody regardless if they have a current 2014 or not, can take that poll. So you will have to excuse me if I do not formulate my original point with data from that poll.

Considering that both brands come out of the same plants and are only cosmetically different, There is no basis to say one brand is built crappier than the other.

I will add though, I did have one weird anomaly. On my second day of ownership, I went to back out of my drive way and the truck would not move, The parking brake was set the night before when I parked it, but that morning the red "Brake" light was not illuminated to remind me it was set. I released the brake and reset with the red "Brake" light coming on as it should and have not noticed the issue since.

Just wondering if the brake light is a direct wire to the parking brake switch or is on that CAN BUS? May have just been a sticky brake switch being new.

I wonder if this is an isolated issue or a more common one. There have been several complaints about this already in this forum. I believe one cause was a frozen exhaust valve.

Have a new 2014 Silverado Double Cab 5.3 with 3.08 with 1,400 miles on it. Had tires forced balanced. Same problem still exists.. shakes/vibrates 45-75 MPH. It is subtle, however very annoying. It feels like something in the drivetrain. Ran a 1999 Silverado for 272k miles, never vibrated like this. At this point would trade it back.

What tires and size?..I had this issue

Check out this thread. You may want to bring this up to your dealer. It seems to be a problem in the frozen north climates... http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/155893-and-the-trouble-begins-no-start/

I traded in a 2010 Silverado which was very reliable, started every time. Remote start worked great with warm heated seats and a warm cab. This was a major selling point for us (it was -25 degrees a few days ago). I now have a 2014 Silverado that has the following problems:

- Now won't remote start at all. Scheduled for the dealer in two days

- Also very difficult to start, sometimes won't start at all

- Large quantities of black smoke when it does start

- Cab never seems to really warm with remote start (when it worked)

- Seats are not warm after remote start

- Missing blue LEDs on knobs as discussed in this forum

- Gas mileage started off very good but now declining markedly

I realize that this is a new model but this truck is not reliable! We travel many miles and were looking forward to doing so in this vehicle. Very disappointing!

Does anyone else have any experience on how their Forward Collision Alert is working good experiences preferably but bad also?

I am looking to purchase a new 2014 truck. I stopped by my Chevrolet dealer a few days ago to drive a 2014 Silverado 1500 with Forward Collision Alert. Was introduced to the so called truck sales expert and unfortunately at the end of my test drive was not impressed with the collision system.

Had a person that I did not notice or see, that walked by just in front of the truck as we were waiting to pull out of a service station driveway. I did not nor did the truck notice them as they were walking by. I only saw her as she cleared the front of the truck. Never did see any indication on the windshield at any time during the test drive. Did notice some small symbols on the speedometer area that flashed – would be sure to get into an accident if I were using that to detect approaching trouble. Did feel the seat vibrate a few time as I intentionally drifted out of a lane. The vibration alert was almost unfelt on the left side of my seat, right side was somewhat better.

Thanks

Update

I have taken two more test rides attempting to see how the $800 Forward Collision

Alert system works. I would really like to include it on my new truck

purchase. With the system's Forward

Alert turned on, a little green car will appear in the instrument panel when you’re

following a car at a certain distance too far back and it does not appear.

Change lanes, now no car directly ahead and the green car disappears,

nice. The system is now set on maximum sensitivity at 3 bars in the setup

menu.

We are on a freeway, there was considerable distance between an unsuspecting

driver’s car and any car ahead of them nor any other cars around us. Not saying

this was a nice thing to do but there was some thought of safety.

We are fast approaching an unsuspecting car.

I am a little uncomfortable doing this because the other drive does not

know they are part of our test. Nothing has lit up, vibrated or sounded off as

we were very quickly approaching the lead car and now just around 3 car lengths

away. The difference in speed was around

10 to 15 MPH I guess and the unsuspecting lead car was moving at something

above 40 MPH. As I let up on the

throttle but still closing in and now reaching the 1 car length between vehicles

the green car symbol in the interment panel did finally turn to an orange color,

still no audible, visual or vibrating warning.

At this point much too close for my comfort and definitely in the collision

distance if the other drive made any sudden driving changes. What happened to the 1 car length safety

distance for every 10 MPH. Looks like

this system might tell you “Too Close just as you collide”. I nor my trusting salesperson were impressed.

Was the audible alert system turned on? Yes.

The system was actually set to chime, I liked that better than the seat vibrator

warning and there is not an option for both.

The chime did function when I did made lane changes without using the

turn signals but you were about a third of a truck width over the yellow line

when it sounded off. All three different

trucks I drove worked about the same on lane changes. There appears to be no warning protection from

someone drifting in to you nor much protecting and every possibility you could easily

drift into another vehicle before the system would generate a warning.

This last truck tested, was the only one, I pushed my sense of good judgment

too and got close enough to another vehicle to get a mild forward alert warning.

I wonder how close you have to get to

see a red alert, if there actually is one?

Very disappointed, one of my

main reasons for picking a Chevy.

Comments appreciated, not trying to bash Chevys

Has anyone noticed that when sitting at idle the engine seems to really run rough and shake the truck a bit? I take my foot off the brake and move forward a bit and it goes back to smooth as glass. But sitting in traffic, you can feel it vibrate throughout the whole truck. 2014 Sierra 5.3.

Yes, I noticed the same rough idle. Feels like a cylinder is missing. 2014 Silverado 5.3, 1,400 miles.
