Thank You General Motors...yeah, right

900-series trucks aren't plug and play. You just get a bundle of wires under the dash to splice into.

I went to the parts dept. of my local dealer and they went to the computer and printed out a sheet that told me exactly what the wires were. Then I went to etrailer.com for directions and spliced everything up. It took 30 minutes in my 2011 Silverado.

Don't know what the big deal is.

The problem started when I couldn't find the Wiring in the Owners Manual, and then found that the Wiring under the dash was not only just short as hell, but not labeled accurately (Dk Blue = Aux ???.....looking to find Power to Trailer Brakes).....then when I called Customer Service (Tech) to ask " Is it the Dl Blue Wire that powers the Trailer Brakes".....and they answered they "do not have that information"......I did end up finding it in the owners manual.....then to find they couldn't even supply a nut for the Stud under the hood....it was the Cherry on the Sundae for a truck that I'm really not all that thrilled with.

I went to the Auto parts store and bought the fuses for under the hood. And then made a trip to the hardware store and bought the nuts.

I understand the powertrain on these trucks are not the smoothest.

Trying to wire a Brake Controller....pull down the Harness....Thank You for the 8 inches of Wiring.....tag does not show what color wire for Brakes.....I figured it's gotta be Dark Blue by elimination (has "AUX" on it), but want to be sure....call GM customer Service....they don't know, and will call me back with an answer.....10 minutes go by and have a Tech from GM on the phone, and he explains to me how to sinc my camper to the 7 pin......"WTF you talkin' about....I need to wire a Brake Controller !!!"......"I need to know if the Dark Blue Wire from the Harness is for the Brakes"....he sez "I don't know, and cannot get that information".....WTF !!!!!!.....I'm hating this POS truck more than ever now.....they cheap out on the wire.....then there is no nut to attach the red wire under the hood.....gimme a freakin' break !!!.....I can't wait till this lease is up!

Sounds like a 30 pack install

Beer Belly's posts are a typical post by one who is unhappy with their purchase/lease. Chevrolet is cutting costs by not having a wiring harness included for the brake controller. They are also cutting costs by not including the nuts under the hood for the power wire install.

THEY ARE NOT DOING ANYHTING DIFFERENT THAN ANY OTHER MANUFACTURER. The car/truck business is real competitive. EVERY PENNY COUNTS.

The one thing I know first hand is you can't buy a Dodge or Toyota anywhere near the price of a SIlverado. Obviously, "Beer Belly" needs to look elsewhere for his next car/truck purchase.

The brake controller is VERY EASY to do if one does his HOMEWORK FIRST!

Installing the Brake Controller is easy....this is not my first time installing one, and won't be my last. I understand they want to save $$$, but c'mon...a little bit more wire, or the ability of plug and play....and they can sell the pigtail in parts....I'd gladly pay for it !. Yes, next time I will be considering other makes, and stepping away from GM will take some doing, as I've owned 11 of them over the years, it's just that I feel that this is a step backward so far (quality wise) from my '06

I'll be towing with it next weekend, and give my thoughts on how it tows. Something tells me I won't be impressed with it's towing capabilities (6 speed), but might be impressed with the Tow/Haul engine braking feature, and the stabilitrac.......of course, you'll read it here.....if you choose.

Looks like everyone was trying to save some money. Why didn't you just buy a truck with the factory installed brake controller? Works much better than the aftermarket units available and problem solved.
