2014 Silverado Z71 Package

I prefer smaller rims. The larger the rim the more expensive the tire. I also prefer more sidewall than rim which = more give from tire = smoother ride and less chance of messing up a rim off road. A 20" rim will corner better than a smaller rim due to the less sidewall height of the tire.

Well shoot, Lets try to clear some things up. The 18" wheel does not have a smaller tire. Both 18s and 20 inch wheels come with the same over all tire height and circumference. Revs per mile on an 18 wheel and a 20 wheel (265 65 18 vs 275 55 20) is within 4 revs. The 18 inch wheel will have the tire with more rubber (more side wall) and thus weight more. See this link to specifications on tire rack for the Michelin LTX MS2:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=LTX+M%2FS2&sidewall=Blackwall&partnum=665TR8LTXMS2&tab=Sizes

Also note that the 20 inch cost less than the 18 in this tire.

Note that the 900s have always come with the 275 55s on the 20" wheel. My friends 07 had such.

When I swapped out my new ones on my 09 truck I went from 265 65 18 to 275 65 18 and it worked out well on the ride. If you go in the pasture (we have cactus and mesquite down here) or off road a lot the 18" wheel is better. I come back from a dove hunt or checking the pasture and pull out the mesquite thorns in the side walls/tread.

That all said, I think the best looking wheel (not a chrome or spider fan) on the '14s (Chevy or GMC) is the GMC 20" bright machined aluminum (SLE only). I would probably try such if I could get it on an SLT. I did see a stock SLE Texas edition with the stock '18 that the wheel looked good. Sort of a machine bright alum in 18. Better than the SLTs 18s and 20s.

Yes, the outside dia. is less than a 1/2" difference. The sidewall is what makes the most difference. I have about 1/2 mile of gravel road back to my house so that is a factor also.

Fully Agree, I thought the 18 is a better ride due to more side wall had been cleared in an earlier post(s) so I did not hit hard on it.

Yes I feel those were the best looking wheels on any of the 900s. Were not an around and or an option for my 09. Would gladly take then on a '14.

I drive a lot of gravel and off-road and I really dislike the idea of having 20" wheels but ever larger diameter rims are certainly the trend in light-duty trucks (city folks apparently love 'em). I suspect that if I buy a well-equipped GMC SLT or Denali as I'm planning, I'm going to be forced to get the 20" rims. Is it common for dealers to agree to swap out new factory 20" wheels/tires for 18" ones?

Doubt they would say no since the 18s are cheaper.

I agree that the 20s are overkill for a supposed off road pickup. However pertaining to Chevy's version of an offroad pickup in stock form will leave you with a curbed wheel and mashes from valence, if you make it that far on the Goodyear maypop P metric street tires.

Tire needs to be as close to double the size of the rim as possible if using offroad.

Don't do any off roading, just bad driveway in winter. I have a 1/2 mile of unpaved county road back to my house that going to be paved next year or so. Wife and I leaning towards the GMC now. The 20" wheels with the SLT looks the best on the GMC. They have one at the dealer with same wheels and suspension, just the wrong color and bed length I want. I'll drive it before I decide.

I picked my Z71 crew cab yesterday. Didn't take long for my order to come in.

Turned 170 miles this evening. I ordered it with the 18" wheels. I was at the tire store this morning looking to put a taller tire on. I would like another 1 1/2" taller if it will fit.

Anyone have suggestions ?

Thanks
