V6 Power Numbers

Recommended Posts

Thought the 4.3 would be pushing 300hp also. I see the 4.3 holds 6 quarts of oil where the 5.3 & 6.2 hold 8 quarts interesting.

Have not read the link above yet. But for reference or a reality check. The all new 5.3 V8 in 1999 was to set the world on fire with 270 hp. They bumped it to 285 hp for the 2000 model year(do not remember torque specs that far back). Current 5.3's are at 315? So kind of thinking 285 out of a 4.3 to start is pretty good.

Edit: adding link comparing current hp/torque numbers...

Where do these higher HP numbers on the 5.3 on E85 come from? If they are true why is GM not stating them?

I thought that the 355 HP released number was weak. I don't care what the 5.3 used to be rated at, they could have made a 5.7 or 5.4 or whatever. They probably used the same 5.3 for sympathy so loyalists would look at it like an improvement. B.S.

Those jackasses have had plenty of time to build some quality engines. Their competition has much better numbers. The new Chevy LTZ 20 inch wheels look like they made something for DUB magazine.

GM is stating them. The link Hodges25 posted above is straight from GM. And GM makes the best truck engines in the industry. Fords used to be slow, spark plug spitting slugs and the new 5.0 blows apart on Mustangs with mild power adders.

I love GM engines. Totally agree. Had not looked at the link. I have been pissed since they announced that 355 bull. Glad I can count on some extra ponies.

All I can say is that I hope they keep E85 in the taks for the test drives!

It's amazing what GM does power wise with their engines with such a simple design. Sure the 5.3 makes a little less than Ford's 5.0, but Ford has to use a more complicated design to get just a few more ponies. Same way with the current 6.2. GM's is a pretty simple setup while Ford uses 2 spark plugs per cylinder and a bunch of other useless garbage, and it doesn't really have that much more power.

My brother and I recently pulled two new 7X26 foot enclosed trailers from south GA to SC with my truck and his new Toyota. I rode a fill up pulling the trailer with his UGLY yota, and he in my Chevy. I was ashamed after getting behind my wheel at the next stop. Gutless came to mind. He also avg'ed 12 mpg to my 9. Sad.

Still a Chevy man though!
