01 Sierra 1500 4x4, to lift or level?

Recommended Posts

Picked up a truck which is going to be used for a hunting rig / winter driver. Currently it's sitting on 20x9 rims with 275/55/R20. These street tires just don't cut it off roading. I was told by a local tire shop I need a larger tire in order to get a more aggressive off road tire. As well in order to stuff a larger tire under it I need to go taller. I'm just not sure weather to level the truck or lift it. I want something that's going to handle some abuse and isn't going to ride incredibly rough down the road. I know it's an older truck but has anyone had any experience with this?

A level will allow a 285/55R20 and allow you to get a little more aggressive tire

a lift will cost a lot of money. definatley unnecessary as the GMT800 is a pretty stout offroader in stock form especially if you have the G80 in the back. Your best would would (like chris said) get a leveling kit for around $100 and find some stock GMT800 16's or 17's and get 285 MT's of your choice and throw em on the truck!

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Cheap, easy, and very effective. Perfect hunting / winter truck.

My 2000 is lifted with a 2.5" lvl, stock blocks, and a 1.5" body lift on 305 70r16s and has plenty of ground clearance to get me around the woods.
