4L60e Transmission 1st Gear Downshift

Recommended Posts

For all of us 4L60e trans owners,

As I have driven my truck for almost 7 years now I have noted that I can actually feel and see (tach gage) when my trans downshifts to low gear upon stopping. Since it has always done this I never worried about as it doesn't seem to affect anything. My only other experience with this specific trans was my previous Sonoma (2004) which I don't remember this happening. So what I am wondering is if other 4L60e trans owners have noticed this on their vehicle (trucks or cars)? It's not a violent downshift but it is noticeable, but only when normal or slow stopping. It doesn't do this in quick/panic stopping (or just don't notice because I'm trying to avoid an accident or the red light snuck up on me.)

I don't think it's a problem, just something that came to mind one day.

06SierraZ71,

Looks like you have some good experiences here. Let me know if you need anything in the future. Thank you.

Thanks Tricia, yes I've had some really good experience with all the GM products I've owned. Everytime I've strayed away, I'm reminded why I should stay where I am. The Sierra is currently at 104k miles and couldn't be happier. I honestly feel this is the truck that I'll be teaching my daughter to drive in...several years from now.

There should only be one code that starts with M. That is your transmission. Find out what it is an use the RPO Code Lookup on the Main Page to see what you have.
