Suburban programmer/ tune

Looking at a programmer or a tune for my 07 LTZ 4x4 burb w/ 145k. I already use synthetic oil in her since 100k but I seem to burn a quart every 3-4k. From what I have read its the drop down of cylinders from 8-4 that creates this. My old 99 tahoe with 215k burnt a quart of oil every 6-7k miles before I sold her.

One of the remedies I read was that a programmer/ special tune could remedy this and I was maybe looking to tweak some other things for better fuel economy and towing.

I have been looking at Edge, Bully, and maybe a Black Bear tune...?

The burb is my daily driver and I have put 80k on her in 2yrs since purchasing her. I love the burb and am too the point of either flipping her for a newer one or keeping her and running her till she reads 300k on the odometer.

What do you think?

Thanks.

One of our inTunes or trinitys will work great for youer 07 Suburban and allow you to disable AFM as well.

You'll also have the option to switch tunes for different octane levels, and make adjustments to the tune yourself if desired, without the need to pull the PCM out and ship it to someone or purchase a new PCM.

Our tools will also allow you to datalog, and read and clear trouble codes which comes in handy as well :)

Thanks

How do you allow for customers to tune themselves, Is there a baseline that you have to follow?

How do you get into the 'custom tune'

AFM may, or may not, be related to the oil consumption that you see. More importantly, the consumption won't hurt anything, and you'll never 'break even' on the cost of tuning, vs burning a small amount of oil. There are benefits to tuning that you may be interested in, but I wouldn't bank on reducing the rate of oil burn.

Think about it this way: assume you get 15 mpg average, and burn 1 qt in 4000 miles. 4000 mi / 15 mpg = 267 gal of gas, which is ~1000 quarts of gasoline. Burning one more quart of "petrol" is therefore 1 in 1000 of the total consumed. That's basically "nothing", in the bigger picture. If you get into the range of 1 qt per 2000 miles, then GM thinks that may indicate a concern (bad ring, etc.). Toyota doesn't care until it gets to 1 qt in 1000 miles.

There are a couple of guys selling their blackbear autocal tuners on here. Check them out. You'll save a few buck on the programmer. Check out blackbear.com Everyone that has their truck tuned by them seems to love them.

i am still not sure who figured out oil consumption is okay! my 2001 5.3 with 160 km's on it or my denali with 73 km's on it, didn't and does not consume oil. as far as costs, 5-600 bucks if are able to,is so worth it. i smile my ass off every time i step on it! you can't put a price on that!!!

Yea you can. The price for a big ass grin is $500-600. And the truck won't leave you like a woman can so its worth every penny.

They don't "consume" enough for you to notice between changes, but every piston stroke leaves oil on the cylinder, which is then burned. Mine doesn't "use" a measurable amount either, but it's burning a little w/ every stroke, just like every other. As for the "fun" or other benefits of tuning, I'm not questioning it, but that's a whole other reason. I doubt that the rate of oil burn will change by disabling AFM.

:) I guess that came across a little stronger than I intended. All I meant, was that tuning out AFM may or may change the rate of oil use for the OP, and that I wouldn't pay that much for a "tune" or "tuner" for only that reason. There's plenty of good reasons, but there's no way to know if it will help oil use rate on his Burb.
