coolant flush

Recommended Posts

i have been thinking about doing a coolant flush. i was thinking of doing the flush and then running it with just distilled water and a bottle of water wetter. i have tried this method before on a different vehicle with awesome results, i wondering if anyone has tried this on their 4.8? would anyone else do this to their chevy?

Do you mean no coolant, just distilled water and the "water wetter"? That would not be smart, plain stupid. imo Coolant protects the metal and gaskets in the system

Now if you're talking about using Dexcool, distilled water and water wetter, I'd have no problem with that

well im saying ill use distilled water with the water wetter instead of adding coolant, distilled water i dont think would do anything to the metal as ive used it before on a smaller engine with no problems, the only time i had problems with rust and grime in the cooling system was when i was younger in my first car in high school i used to get the garden hose and fill up if i ever needed or spilled coolant for whatever reason. i heard you get problems in your cooling system by using water out the hose weather it be tap water or well water because of the minerals they have in them?

You do what makes you feel good. Doubt you'll find anyone who will agree with your plan, or convince them that long term your plan is sound. Do you live where it never freezes?

I'm out on this subject

yes i actually live in hot humid awesome south florida, im not trying to convince anyone, as you said i will do whatever makes me happy in the end and so will anyone else. im just trying to get different inputs and opinion as you gave me yours. i want to know if what i said wanted to do would keep my coolant temperatures from fluctuating on really hot days like it does in lite to moderate traffic at red lights, just trying to keep temps pretty level temp/

Uh...says it COMPATIBLE WITH DEXCOOL not replaces DEXCOOL. Run distilled water and Dexcool, and add the Water Wetter if you so choose. Water wetter is a coolant additive NOT a coolant substitute. Don't trash your truck.
