Need Shock advice

Recommended Posts

Truck has 110K on it, and Im thinking I need new shocks. I was thinking about these for the front to help control that big front bumper,

and these for the rear, to help with the rearend sag when towing or hauling

Would these work or do I need to go with another setup?

Ide rather not deal with airbags. It just seems like a hassle to have to air them up all the time, plus me little $40 compressor sucks something terrible. Ide rather just have extra spring. I had a set of these shocks for my 01 S10 that were on it when I bought it, and I liked the way they rode. Im just concerned with them interfering with anything, or their quality of construction, especially the front since I have so much extra weight on there and I do take it offroad.

If it was mine I'd to Bilstein adjustable on front for the bumper, plain Bilsteins on the rear, and airbags on back so you can pick your height.

Towing and angles are the reasons my truck isn't leveled. With boat and bed full of gear it sits level. Granted I only pull that boat 4x a year.

Again though, Ide rather not have to worry about airing the bags up or down. Ide rather have the capacity there anytime I need it.

Do you have a model number for those adjustable fronts? Ide like something that can support the extra weight Ive put on the front end, and that can kinda make up for any sag Im getting do to worn torsion bars.

Where were you guys last week. Wnet ahead and pulled the trigger on the ones I posted. Got the two rears and one front Saturday. The other front will be here tomorrow. I wanted something that might help with the load on the front end, so I got the HD shocks. I just hope they actually dampen the vibration caused from my cupped tires, and not magnify it.

Well, I got the back ones on. It was super easy. I thought the bolts would have been seized up, but they werent bad at all. I realize I bought the load handling shocks, but I didnt realize they were gonna give me such a rake. Its got the rear lifted up a good bit. Will have to see if the front is affected any when I put the fronts on.

I was messing around with the old shocks and it got me to wonder if I should be able to compress them by hand or not, because I can. Plus one of them goes from fully compressed to fully extended 10 seconds faster than the other. Not sure if this is a bad thing or not, but I did get to thinking if I replaced good shocks, or if they were in fact bad. Im not sure when they were put on, but they look stock, and the truck has 111K on it. What do you think?

My factory shocks could all be pushed by hand and a couple would stay compressed

Well, I got the front ones on, and noticed that the factory shocks were leaking. Plus, when compressed, they didnt seem to want to rebound, so Im sure the fronts were shot. The new ones didnt affect the ride height, but the ride and handling is like a new truck. i took it down a little rough dirt road and there was no drift, even at 50mph. I think I made a decent choice.
