Sarah, look into Old Dominion Freight. They have their own school and it is free if you stay with the company for a year. Pay is great, home every night. You'd run 4 or 500 miles per night. Good equipment good pay. Bought my Callaway working here, and I'm just on the dock...

The straight truck guys get picked on more going through scale houses. Some business owners do not meet all the requirements DOT has & the driver gets nailed. The trucks that are on the road all the time moving goods for their company usually have their stuff together.

TWIC is http://www.tsa.gov/s...edential-twic®

a post 9/11 scam for money. Though they are a requirement for getting in to ports with Baltimore MD & Jacksonville, FL have their own scam going in addition to TWIC. It accomplished very little for security & exporters (at least in auto transport) want things moved for less than nothing.

Look into Coca Cola or Old Dominion as silveradosc540 mentioned. We have a CCX near here which is owned by Conway I think.

Not sure how they are to work for. UPS is always hiring people who run the day cabs running interstate, but home daily, or so they say.

I have my own authority & own a semi/7 car trailer that I am going to look into selling before March when plates/insurance are due.

Rates keep getting worse & there are more regs coming that are getting to be too much for the avg. independent, or at least me.

Been thinking about getting into driving as well, but I'm not sure I'd be able to get a CDL with my eyesight though.

My dad is a courier you have to use your own vehicle which your going to destroy. He does local and out of town runs the later being the most profitable this summer he had to drive all the way to Utah for a delivery. Your probably not going to make a lot if you don't have a truck with an 8ft bed or a full sized cargo van some of the people that work for his company rent box trucks.

Fort McMurray - North. My guys (and girls) clear $1500 - $2000/week pretty regularly from late March to mid December. Long hours, but no heavy lifting.

My friend drives truck in fort mcmurray and rakes the dough. But in fort mcmurray everything is way more expensive even buying a trailer to live in costs as much as a nice apartment in BC

My brother has been driving truck since after high school. Went to, I guess you can call it school for his CDL and equipment operating. Makes some good money and is able to be home every night. The only problem is the long hours away from his kids.

You can definately make some good money driving truck if you don't mind not being home al lthe time.

Get a used 1-ton cargo van or Sprinter van and hook up with someone like Express Logistics. Couriers make good money! The only problem is you can be "on call"...

I friend of mine is an operations manager/dispatcher for a company that runs guys like that out of Indy. Sounds like they do decent though one of his guys had to haul a cadaver even though the ice cooling the body melted. In August.

Another drives a tractor trailer for Hood. Starts super early and is home by early afternoon. His wife works evenings so one of them is always with their kids and his gig is just driving, no handling crates and such.

Since you live with your parents, you would really have a nice chunk of cash to buy toys from driving truck.

No morgage, just money for whatever you want.

You may be able to save and get a new 2014 when they hit the lots. It's nice having new vehicles with no payment. Feels good to be able to pay cash for it too.

Do what you need to do for the CDL and have fun traveling the country but be safe!
