Sadly pretty much all new (non high end anyhow) vehicles have terrible paint these days. Between that and thinner metal it's disappointing.

Well it's going to the dealer tomorrow to be assessed. The dealer is pushing me to buy a new truck but I don't really like the 14+GM trucks and I currently back in school at 25 so don't have the money kicking around I once did. I'm going to school so that I can get into the military.

I think that's the only reason my truck hasn't rotted out yet. Between the dealer bashing it up with 10k on the clock, me backing into a sapling at 3 MPH and nearly totaling the thing, and then getting sideswiped in traffic last year, it hasn't had a chance to.

My question is why should I fork over $50 000+ for a new truck that's going to literally ding itself up and have the paint flake off. When I join the military I will not have a nice big income and if I buy a brand new pickup truck while I'm In the forces I'd have to finance it for probably seven years. That being said it would be nice if atleast the body could hold up the seven years. Heck yes I just did that cab corners on my 1994 Silverado but dam even with 315 000km and being 22years old it still has less dings then my 2013.

Yep - even in '94 panels were heavier. They've been cheaping out twice per decade since '73. I've had some heavy metal things bounce right off my '71 C20 & my '72 El Camino without so much as a ding.

Even backed into a concrete parking lot light foundation in Phoenix at nearly 20 mph (don't ask, lol) with the 'Camino. Only bent the tailgate hinge & bumper on the right side inward 1/4". Tailgate still functioned normally.

The dent in the middle was from pushing it into the barn with my ATV after I ran the fuel out of it. The tire slipped and fell out from between, then the wheels hit some floor boards inside the barn and came to a abrupt halt. Bam! 800 lb. ATV with a stainless steel brush guard on front, right into the middle of the tailgate skin.

Ya I wish GM put pride in what they build like they did at one time. Dam GM made some dam good vehicles but I'm starting to wonder now. I love the look of the 07-13 Chevy's and GMC trucks but just hate how they ding up so easy and how the paint just flakes off. It makes you feel like you just tossed $40 000+ out the window.

There is actually 2011 Chevy running around here with just completely rusted out bedsides. I'm talking more rust on them then my 1994 Chevy by a long shot. The rust on my 94 is so minimal it's still passes inspections with flying colors.

One of the reasons I got away from them. Got tired of paying almost $600 a month for something that the sheet metal or paint dents/chips if I look at it wrong.

Now my Cruze isn't any better, but I pay a helluva lot less for it a month, and it gets 33MPG.

Man if only I could take control over the GM truck side of things. Lots would change first off if you walked into a GM dealer and you wanted a loaded regular cab short box with a 6.2 and heated and air-conditioned seats you'd get it if you wanted so and rims with so and so paint you'd get it. If you wanted a actual manual transmission you'd get it and the sheet metal wouldn't be paper thing. Guess what if GM did stuff like that they'd put the comp outa business.

Cars are becoming like our electronics. Use them a couple years, and throw them away.
