Can you cut the bolt drop the k member then drill it out?

K member is dropped mostly, I had to raise it to get the pic.

No, it can not be drilled out. There is a bolt extractor broken off in the bolt, hardened steel. Only thing that could make a dent is a torch or diamond bit. I tried several over extractors and it barely made a mark.

I don't see any pictures. I was thinking cut it flush with frame which would hopefully be past the broken easy out and try drilling is again.

No, it's a few MM into the frame. Pics in musclecar/othercar thread.

So I've been using this rental truck in place of my truck for everything I do. Took it on vacation, towed the boat, hauled my crap, and even though it's an f250 with a 6.2L gas engine, it can't tow like my truck. I know mines tuned but man this thing revved to the moon with a 3k pound boat/ trailer combo going up hills. All I had was luggage in the boat, a cooler, three people in the truck total, and my two kayaks in the bed. Very unimpressed with the 6.2. Definitely wouldn't buy a Ford gas HD. Our 6.0 work trucks have way more pep than that truck. Only Ford I'd give another shot is a 5.0 f150 or a powerstroke super duty

Speaking of Fords .... it seems nobody can build a Ford starter solenoid that can make it more than 40 cycles anymore.

Just did the starter, solenoid, and wiring in our '86 Grand Marquis on May 9th. Today (lucky I had the windows open) I hear the car cranking endlessly. At first I was thinking, WTF is my wife doing ... and then it dawned on me what was happening. I darted out the door half dressed - lost my untied shoe in the driveway - threw the hood open, and tried yanking the start wire off the solenoid. Don't know why I bothered - wouldn't have done anything anyway. Since I was in fight or flight mode, I just grabbed the nearest thing, which happened to be the negative cable, and pulled it off the battery terminal. Luckily it came off pretty easy. Positive wire was pretty damn warm. Car cranked over non stop for all of 2 minutes straight. Genuine FoMoCo solenoid! E8TZ-11450-B .

At least RockAuto's return system is very easy. Didn't have to talk to a soul. Just typed in my problem, and requested a refund. Now I just have to get this thing to a FedEx drop-off. 14 miles from here, of course ...

Ended up installing the old 9 year old solenoid I bought at some big parts chain at the time. Still works! I'll buy another locally to have on hand just in case this one fails.

I just had this exact issue last summer on the neighbor's '89 F350 dump truck. She called saying one of her workers was broken down up in the center of town. I drove up there, & as soon as I connected the battery, the engine started cranking. Pulled the solenoid, and had continuity across the terminals with nothing connected. The one that was on there before that broke in half before I even got close to snugging down the battery & starter cables. Seems the chinese are having a difficult time making solenoids today! Totally hit-or-miss with quality.

Called the shop that sells the reupholstered 4th gen seats, the guy said yes even though the ad says black with tan inserts you can have them made in any color combo they sell since each set is made after an order is placed(just clearly specify a different color in the notes). If the car does get fixed Tuesday I'm trying to decide what color I want, I'm thinking either All black or black with grey inserts(think of the 35th edition cars). The more I think about it the more I like the idea of leatherette. The way you get in and out(sits so low) and the seat design, they wear pretty fast

I have also been seeing a set of the factory cloth seats(correct color for my car) on eBay for pretty cheap, they cost less than the shipping does. Thinking of buying them just to store for a while. I could either restore it to factory mint way down the line or wait until they are worth a fortune. No one wants the ugly cloth now, but someday if will be like every other classic, the stuff no one wanted will become rare and valuable.

So, my grandma may be on her way out. And thus, a "funny story" (save your wtfs for the end). She is a particularly difficult patient, so much that my wife who works in a different department across the huge hospital is hearing stories through the grapevine. She hasn't been a particularly good person either, well know for trying to turn people against each other, and severally beating children. So, she gets angry and people aren't to pleased or happy around her when she is.

Well, they "had to sedate her(unconscious)" so she could rest do to troubled breathing. I decided to go visit her, and when we got there she was being "given a bath". Seemed Odd since she hasn't been under a day. We walked to the room door and heard the Thunder game BLARING over the TV(in OK mind you). She couldn't care less about basketball.....and the nurse station, which is fairly big, it has like 10 separate PC workstations, which was literally 5 feet from her room, was completely empty. For a while. Meanwhile every now and then other hospital staff was coming in and out of the room. We were told the bath shouldn't take too long.

Yeah..... a bath.

I happened to stop at a local Sam's club attempting to check the tire pressure on the wife's car, first and last time I do that! The lb readout isn't even digital, which isn't a big deal to me but it would make it so much more customer friendly if it was. And the employee couldn't get the air to come out, but just when he's about to replace the trigger/end piece he "remembers" that the compressor was recently turned off. lol

And I even asked about availability of new Michelin tires but he could not care less, he didn't even attempt to answer anything.

I wouldn't buy tires there, Walmart and Sam's tires have a different part number. My brother had a good friend that managed a Sears and said that the companies can only meet the prices Walmart Corp demands by sacrificing the quality, cheaper rubber, etc. That's why you will have competition refuse to meet Walmart prices on stuff like tires and electronics: the PNs don't match.

I still haven't owned a vehicle with a cabin air filter yet.

I totally jinxed myself by talking about how our Grand Marquis still had the OEM original 30 year, 230k mile starter in it. Thing took a dump on me last week. Rest of the parts just came in today, so got that job out of the way. New Remy starter (made in china :noway: ), Motorcraft solenoid, a new ground cable, and the positive cable (from solenoid to starter) out of the '00 Jimmy I parted out. Wasn't quite long enough, so I cut the red accessory feed off the harness and spliced it into the black cable, then crimped on the lugs, & covered the splice and lugs with Ancor marine heat shrink tubing. Also got rid of some excess useless garbage that's been hanging off the side of the cats and causing exhaust leaks the past 10 years, as you can see in the pic.

Hope the curse of the GMC Jimmy has been exorcised from that cable ... :fingersx:

Guess the starter has been in decline for several years, since I can't remember the car ever cranking over as fast as it does now, lol!

.......

The brand new solenoid I just installed with the starter just welded itself together the other day, and the car continued to crank until I yanked the negative terminal. WTF. FoMoCo solenoid too.

In other news, just moments ago, a frequent visitor to my feeder came back. I ran out there and grabbed the feeder before she could destroy it a second time.

The wife and kids will be out of town for a few days so I should have plenty of time to get the truck truly cleaned up inside and out along with tire/trim dressings.

And I will be going to my parents for an afternoon to install the left tie rod ends once and for all. With my dad it should only take an afternoon instead of a few days (knocking on wood).

Yep - it's my replacement. First one lasted 7 years before the speakers croaked. :D
