There's a guy down the road form me that seems to be an S-10 "enthusiast." He's got about 5 trucks in his yard.

I envy him.

Not cos I like S-10s so much as I just want a ton of project vehicles around to work on. [emoji38]

The new GA tax laws really "grind my gears." Even if I buy a no-motor or transmission truck I have to pay the state a tax on it valued at what the truck would be worth in immaculate condition AND insure it and get a tag within 30 days or I'll face fines and penalties when I DO go to register it.

The kicker is.. if the vehicle is newer than 1988 it has to have emissions too.. and with no engine.................. I should note this guy is a stones throw over the county line.. so he doesn't need emissions. If I had a catapult I could siege the neighboring emissions free county. But we need emissions.

I called my state senator to complain.. he dismissed my concerns. I will vote for a ham sandwich before I will vote for him again.

Emissions testing sucks, but it is a good thing. I like that i can register planned non op

See that's the thing.. GA doesn't seem to have any provision for their registration for a nonoperable vehicle.

They tell you you must comply but then make it impossible to comply.

I just suffice to not buy anymore.. :(

At least newer than 1988..

I really want a 78 trans am to make up like smokey and the bandit.. get a nice LQ4/9, a good cam, nice set of heads and drop in there.. either a T56 or a 4L80..

I'd also like a RCSB "88" chevy truck.. strip the cab down, do a full 95-98 wire/dash swap (it can be done with a little drilling/bolting.. you need to change out the column support which is welded in) do a 4/6 drop, stock SS rims, black, again with a nice 6L LSx. Make it look like a 454 SS with a 94-98 front grill.

If I ever won the lotto I'd do up a morrison chassis 56 belair coupe with an ls7. But that's gonna be hard to do.. considering I don't play.

There's still lots of fun to be had below 1989.

As a fellow resident of Georgia I'm going to give you my experience with the new tax law. I bought a 98 bmw recently and the tag office valued it at 4500, I had only paid 1900 since the trans was slipping. I told the clerk that the value was wrong and she gave me some information on how to dispute their valuation. I still had to pay the tax so I could get a tag but she told me I may get a refund if they agreed with me so I Scheduled an appointment at the courthouse and the guy came out and took pics of the car and made notes of what I told him about the condition. They changed the value to what I paid and I got a check of $150 for the difference in value.

I know it's a bit of a runaround but you can dispute their stupid assessment, they just won't tell you that unless you ask.

What about buying a junker? like no motor no trans, how do I even "legally" buy it? I don't plan to drive it for years..

If I remember correctly I was able to register a junker in the past because I had storage insurance on it, I had to fill out a form stating the vehicle was inop and couldn't get emissions. I don't remember if there was a length of time to get it road worthy or not though. This was all in the metro area, Cobb, Paulding, and Gwinnett

eehhh..

I refuse to insure a vehicle with no motor or transmission. "Storage insurance" is another word for "free money" for state farm. I wouldn't file a claim unless a tree limb (a big one at that..) fell on it and crushed the mess out of it, or the shop burned down or something.

I'm considering canceling insurance on my 57 since it's no longer drivable after my.. accident.

I've gotta pull the motor/tranny to stop it from vomiting fluids.. and to put exhaust back on it. It can only move forward and backward at the moment. The exhaust hits the steering linkage.

Yea I agree I wish we could buy something and not mess with the tag office till it's actually being driven, one of my reasons for moving to Savannah is not having to worry about Emissions anymore, much easier to run whatever motor you want without having to worry about that crap. The only time I miss it is when you get stuck behind the Ford Econoline that's running really rich on these two lane roads. Ends rant

My neighboring county has no emissions or inspections.

On one hand I hate inspections.. on the other.. there's some REALLY problematic vehicles out there.

As I understand it the state government somehow bullied all the neighboring counties to the city of Atlanta into having emissions testing since any of us could forseeably work in the city.

Around here in "good ol boy" country tho.. the rules only apply to people who don't have friends in the right places. (people like me.)

Yea I understand it the same way, I think if the county line is within 50 miles of the city or something like that. At least they don't inspect diesels and 3/4 ton and above gas, I never found those friends you speak of either.

Nothing in OK. That's why the Firebird exists. With race gas it would probably melt down an emissions machine.

Ordered a couple of LG G2's($190 new and unlocked). Want to get to ATT ASAP but pretty sure I'm wanting the S6 Active since the leaks show it to be the better phone for me(ruggedized, waterproof, dustproof, and 1Ah more battery). Don't want to drop $800 on an S6 just to hold me over.

Hadn't followed LG that closely. Its a steal though, 32gb, it has 2GB ram, 1080p screen, Snapdragon 800 at 2.26 GHz, and 13 MP camera with OIS, 3000 mah battery, and Android 5.0 rolling out internationally.

Compared to the newest $200~ mega hit:

The 2015 Moto G LTE 16gb is going to cost $220, has a snapdragon 410, 720p screen, 1gb ram, and 8mp snapper with DIS, 2400mah battery.

The G2 is a hardware upgrade in nearly every way over my S4 so its a win-win IMO.

I've been looking at new phones lately cause I need one with better cell signal for work. My note 3 sucks and LG is the only phone I haven't given a shot at. Motorola has good signal, but tends to lag and freeze up on me causing me to reset it all the time. Samsung I've been having issues with cell signal and also doing some funky shit. Hell, I've even thought about giving the iPhone a chance. It's just too much work to transfer stuff and I drop my phone often so I'd have a broke screen in a day lol

For me as long as i can get some sort of Internet, my work phone works. Google voice. Allows me to carry 1 phone and have 2 numbers on it. Everything for it is handled by Hangouts for that line.

Well I only got one number so that's good for me haha. Not too technically advanced over here to tell you the truth. You had any recent LG phones I don't know about Chris? I know you get a new phone about every 6 months lol

I was hardcore Motorola until I started having issues with my Droid 2 global freezing up and not responding. Switched to note 3 and it's been pretty good so far besides cell signal, the daily reset, and people receiving blank texts from me, mainly when I use the emojis haha
