Haha well what can you expect when you have well over a quarter million miles on a lifted truck

I don't think it counts when everything except the body and frame have been replaced haha

Get a power wagon then.

For me the GMT 800s are more than tough enough. But when you lift them stuff starts to break.

A wall wart is what I've always called a charger that plugs into a wall.

If GM would have put a stronger transmission in in place of the 60e as well as a standard 14 bolt 9.5" then these trucks would be bulletproof. Overbuild the truck a little bit and give the consumer more for what they are paying for. It would justify paying out the ass for a truck. If I'm not mistaken, Ford has a 14 bolt standard in all their half tons now.

Don't take it like I'm bashing GM. I love my heavy chevy but once I started considering all other truck options I realized GM is shorting people for the over priced stuff they put out. I haven't even test drove any new trucks yet so that will really determine what I like

Ford doesn't use a 14-bolt. That's a GM axle. They use their own design and while it does have a significantly larger ring gear it's not like it matters. I can't say I know of anyone on normal size tires that's ever busted up the axle under a GM 1500.

If I had money to throw around I would get a third or fourth year K2 as a dd but maybe get a second gmt800 because this is downright my favorite truck generation. I have a 2000 and would get a 2006/7 in the same white ext. cab, 5.3, 3.73, 2wd configuration.

The new trucks are disposable and I don't feel the "love" for them.

Maybe it's a 12 bolt. But you do notice how much bigger the pumpkin is.

And that's the problem, I have a feeling the truck wouldn't be on stock size tires forever with me lol

I have a couple guys that had trucks with 300k miles on them, same engine, trans and rear ends. They trade out of boredom. I had a couple Z71s I put 200k miles on them I work in the pipeline biss. I work them hard put leave stock wheels on them. I have worked in the pipeline field for 40 years, use 2wd and 4wd, Ive been places some people can only imagine, never broke 4wd parts or front end parts. Some trucks had been modified for more HP. If you drive them hard and rough for fun you can expect parts to break faster.

You're missing my point- referring to axles by bolt count is a GM thing. Ford axles have always been referred to by ring gear diameter- like my F150 I had in high school had a Ford 8.8" rear axle. And regardless, the size is unimportant if they're not breaking. I see you're running 35s which obviously will be additional stress but on stock or near stock sizes, the axles are perfectly fine.

Didn't know ford did that. That's why I'm not a Ford guy lol. I realize the 35's add a ton of stress especially with 4.88's. So far it's held up but when it was stock and I was on 33's I broke pinion teeth. I will say though in stock form I'm sure it'll be fine (stock size tires)

I think people trading up every few years just to have new stuff is part of what's wrong with the auto industry. People complain about bad quality, dealer issues, etc. Well what do you expect, when you reward them for operating like that. Make them do their work to design and sell you a new pickup, you sure as hell have to work to buy one.

The other half of the problem is people being BLINDLY brand loyal. It almost killed GM, and it helped dilute BMW and Toyota.

Cars/trucks aren't better because of what emblem they wear, cars/trucks are better because of how they are engineered.

Well, this year I get to have another surgery! This time on my toe. Looks like I'll miss a week of work, maybe more. Could be worse, appears to be nothing serious.

Hope I can still drive while it heals.

I haven't washed my truck in weeks and she looks like sh*t! But But with all of this rain we've had there really no point. I might even wipe down the bilsteins to make them look like new again once I wash her. lol
