Dyno tune???

Rocketman4

Recommended Posts

I have a 2008 chevy silverado 5.3 with K&N cold air intake and mbrp exhaust. I have recently contacted a well respected dyno tuning place in rochester, ny and am curious on whether or not I should pay the $450 for the dyno tune or wait for black bear to get closer to me for an in person tune. Looking for some extra performance and a little better mileage. Thanks for your help in advance.

Load bearing is a true tuners dyno. Inertia dynos are the ones that put out good numbers, and are pretty much only good for WOT pulls. Inertia dynos are not capable of holding a steady state, so there is no way to dial in part throttle timing.

Have you done any large modifications? Mine was dyno tunes after doing a 6.0 swap to replace the 4.8

If your truck is as listed above with only an intake and catback...... so realistically, stock.... Any competent tuner (like Blackbear) could easily do a basic email based tune and you likely would notice no difference over getting in done on a dyno. Your combo is very basic and has been done 1000's of times. Most tuners can do a scan cable data log or something of that nature and custom suit your needs.

If your truck was cam, headers, injectors etc...... sure.... but even then. The dyno is not the be all and end all as mentioned depending on the manufacturer and loading technique.

We do dyno tunes here, but really only recommend folks with major mods getting one.

If you do get a dyno tune, be sure to have a follow up done in the road to ensure driveability. Driving on the dyno is different than driving on the street.
