Promising better fuel economy for AFM engines, the Range

Zane

You guys are buying into this "4cyl most of the time" MPG stuff. My 2 tuned trucks get better MPG's tuned running all 8cyl all the time than stock. Even better results than what the company for this thing has posted. Pretty sure the BBP tuned trucks can agree. Nothing like torque, HP, and better MPG's in the same package.

This product was specifically designed for folks WHO DO NOT WANT TO REPROGRAM THEIR VEHICLE. Comparing the two is apples and oranges.

Three things that I find interesting are :

1. Neither Ken, nor Adam, or Zane for that matter, offered any pie in the sky unrealistic numbers with the range. On the contrary, they offered what people told them that they wanted, either no V4 mode or more V4 mode. The numbers suggested are very attainable, and with a little practice with hills, breaking and accelerating you can probably improve upon what's been offered by both men to this point. The numbers they've given are based on increasing the amount of time in V4 mode, and nothing else. No tune, timing tires gears fuel, etc...Anything else isn't seemless, untraceable or plug and play.

2. As has been suggested, this isn't a tune, but is designed for those not interested in a tune. Can it be used in conjunction with a tune if you chose not to disable DOD or AFM? I don't know, not sure if the question has been posed to this point. If you want fulltime V8 without a tune, get one. If you want more V4 mode with better mileage and no tune, get one. You want a tune that will disable the AFM? Get a tune instead. You want a V8 with no AFM, no V4 and no cylinder nannies at anytime with nothing plugged in or re-tuned? Get a 6.2 liter. But you better hurry, that changes next year as well.

3. The title under the member names of these gentlemen is Supporting Vendor. This to me would suggest that in some way, probably financially, they support this forum. While I'm sure that the relationship is mutually beneficial, I would hesitate to be too hard on them considering the money that all of us have to provide to the forum for it's maintenance, upkeep and host every day, week or month. That would be none.

Adam and Ken, you heard what people wanted, and gave it to them. Good for you. I would buy one, but I don't have AFM, so, uh, nevermind...I'll put my soapbox away now.

Thanks. We back this up 100%.

That actually bring up another issue I have with this product review. I've never seen a truly unbiased review when the review is conducted by the staff/admin and the product is supplied by a supporting vender. Can't bite the hand that feeds..

Someone is blogging on another Silverado site on how the V8 function (no AFM function) is working quite well.

http://www.silveradosierra.com/blog.php?u=24852&b=2625&r=13193&start=0

Sweet ... worked really nice here on a truck (~6000ft altitude) I had for a week (while testing) and on two Tahoes (one in California ... our "sea level" test truck and one in Utah @ ~8500 ft altitude). The altitude really affects the amount of available torque and it's interesting to see a the differences sometimes.

Having the AFM tuned out is nothing new and has worked great that way for years....Nice to see a product actually doing what it's supposed to without causing some sort of other issue.

I have had my range for about too weeks. I really want to post some mileage numbers but upon receiving my range unit the average temp dropped 20 degrees and we have gotten a foot of snow. Out of the three or four times I have used it, i am amazed how much more throttle you can use without going back to 8 cyl.

I have been following this with interest both here and some other sites. I did plan on getting one until this sequester thing hit and I found out that I will be furloughed. I will be losing a bunch of my paycheck. No more cash to play with.

Anyway, I will continue to follow this. Keep up the good work.

Hi all, I received my v8 module arround the first of the week and wanted to chime in here to give my review and thoughts so far on this product, so here it goes,I am one of those people that hate having a car company shove things down the consumers throat,or use us as ginny pigs,in my opinion GM should have had a push button switch labled economy incorporated into these trucks with AFM that would allow us the consumer to have the option to use 4cyl mode or not.Now back to my review of the Range V8 module,I plugged it in on tuesday when I received it and the product does exactly what it is supposed to do( no more 4cly) so now I no longer have shakey vibrating drives at lower speeds,no more annoying drone from the exhaust in 4cyl mode,no more lurching ahead when I go to stop arround town,no more annoying tourque shifts going from 4cyl to 8cly, instead just smooth even power all the time, when I bought this truck I liked it,but now I absolutely love this truck, and as far as gas mileage is concerned,I am a meter reader so I keep detailed records of how much gas I use on each route I do,and until now there has been very little fluctuation in mileage.I have done 4 routes since I installed this unit, all of which are 2-3 hundred km routes and on all 4 routes I was up 1mpg.So to sum up this review,if you honestly don't like AFM,then you want this product,my truck will never go into 4cyl mode again as long as I own it.

I talked to my old Diesel teacher today, he got a 2011 Sierra Crew Cab 2wd, dropped 2/4 and he loves the AFM. On the highway he averages about 20 MPG. I told him about this product
