Installed my Dual Exhaust!

Recommended Posts

Just finished installing my dual exhaust kit from truckexhaustkits.com. I went with a Flowmaster 50 Series Delta Flow muffler, 2.5" mandrel bent pipes, and 3" rolled edge stainless tips straight out the back. It sounds frickin sweet!!! I'm glad I went with the 50 Series. I had contemplated going with the 40 but after hearing this one I am so glad I didn't. The 50 Series is moderately loud but it won't wake the neighbors which is what I was going for.

As for truckexhaustkits.com...I'm not sure I would go with them again. The kit was not very user friendly to install. I am an ASE Certified Mater Technician and it took me 3.5 hrs to install. The kit came with no instructions at all. I think they need to give some more thought to the hangers. The kit comes with 4 "universal" hangers. However I could not find anywhere to put the last 2. I got 1 on each pipe way at the back but there was nowhere to even come close to mounting the other 2 that were supplied. I will have to crawl back under there this weekend and see if I can find a good spot for them.

I realize they are trying to make 1 kit fit as many applications as possible but I think it would do them well to offer more specific kits. (or at least instructions that give recommended hanger locations for a specific vehicle)

Overall I am happy with how it looks and sounds but next time I may go a different route.

Cool that they can mix and match stuff to work. Sounds like they need to make the kits a bit more user friendly. I looked at their site and wish they had a few more choices as far as mufflers go, such as corsa and borla.

Didn't you just have the MBRP done? Why the change so quick? MBRP sounds great and should really bark with that 6.0L you had installed. Are you going to sell the MBRP muffler?

I want a 3" intermediate pipe, or dual 2.5". The MBRP does sound better with the 6.0. And if i do change it, and with my wheels if I change them my friend in Utah is already trying to buy the stuff off me for his 06 crew cab.

My MBRP system is full 3" ID pipe. Maybe since you originally had the 4.8L it was a different size? You won't beat the MBRP sound if you get rid of it. My 08 V-Max had a Borla system and doesn't come close to my 5.3L with the MBRP. Wish it was available in 2008 when I bought the truck but MBRP did not offer "gas" systems at the time. The Borla system is VERY expensive compared to the MBRP also.

IMO going from the MBRP to the Bolra will be a step backwards.

They system I got is for both 4.8 and 5.3. The intermediate pipe is 2.75" and dual 2.5" on the tails. I wish it was a little more aggressive at WOT

My single/side exit on my 5.3L screams at WOT, your should sound about the same as mine.

The single system is a full 3" for the entire system.

I know the dual system is for sure 2.5", most are and that's the proper size for the HP that engine can put out. The single 3" exhaust is the proper single pipe size for the HP rating.

How long have you had it? Should get a little louder over time. When I am towing it really screams going up the mtns.

If you are not happy with it, you may want to check out Heartthrob Exhaust and take a look at their "deep tone" kit. Pretty sure they have sound bites you can listen to on their site. GREAT sound IMO, very strong.

Here's a table that has estimates of proper size and flow.

I know the dual 2.5" is correct, It's the intermediate pipe. I would love to hear an SS or VMax with Borla S-types on it. I liked the single 3" XR-1 Sportsman, I just don't want drone. So for now it's what I have and the Corsa Sport. Mine is noticeable at WOT, I like the sound but right now I am at a happy medium.

Well, I finally got another hanger on it. I had to make a custom bracket to mount it to. I didn't have anything between the muffler and the flex pipe after the resonator. The factory pipe was actually sitting on the transmission crossmember. I was able to make a bracket that bolted to the extra threads that were sticking through the floor from one of the rear seat anchor bolts. I still think they shouldn't be able to call it a "complete kit" if you have to make custom brackets for it to work; but oh well. After having it for about 2 weeks I am very happy with it. I love the sound. The only time I get any drone at all is if I am in a 25mph zone holding it at about 30mph (with 3.73 gears about 1800 rpm) Other than that I have no drone whatsoever. (At the same rpm at higher speeds I don't get the drone.)
