Texting while driving

I repeat...unless you apply the same laws to police officers, firefighters, paramedics, cable TV vans, utility trucks, power company truck, pizza delivery guys, ad infinitum who have laptops installed in their vehicles that allow "messaging"... DON'T EVEN THINK OF TAKING AWAY MY PHONE OR TEXTING CAPABILITIES. If states (Florida included) can remove helmet laws and riders splatter their brains on the roadways and vegetate for the rest of their lives, then leave my phone alone! If I have the right to ride my bike without a helmet, then I certainly should be able to decide if I want to text and drive or not.

ummmm wow you should not be aloud to drive . Your attitude and way of thinking is just dangerous to everyone around you.

Not wearing a helmet will most likely on kill and injure the person not wearing a helmet

That is an EXCELLENT video! Everyone should watch and take a good long look at some of those people all bruised up and bleeding everywhere. And just think, they are the lucky ones, because they are still living. You can't beat the stupid out of some people with a stick. There are those who think they are super bad asses and it will never happen to them, but I will tell you first hand, If you have ever had to cut a car apart with extrication equipment and work a bad accident because someone was texting and driving, you would never do it again. It simply is not worth it.

Most people will continue to think they are invincible until they see that first hand. I know I've gotten pretty paranoid since becoming a ff/emt

Not like it matters man, we have no texting laws and tons of people still do it.. Not like a cop can really catch you texting at 55 mph and prove it.

Texting while driving doesn't kill people, people kill people.

Has nothing to do with texting, but this is a great "wear your seatbelt" commercial worth sharing.

Pretty powerful.

On the topic at hand, there is some "interesting" rationale in here. Everyone is guilty of breaking what we perceive as minor laws, and we all think that we can do it safely. But it still doesn't make it right or safe. To argue otherwise is foolish. Very few people feel that THEY should be held accountable for their actions these days, but somehow those "other guys" should be. And by other guys I mean any entity referenced in this thread or any body else that "screws it up for the rest of us." It's both laughable and sad.

The Iowa law is a secondary law(help me out with this Blackout07) and law enforcement can't pull you over for texting and driving but can cite you if pulled over for something else.

Not sure about other state laws, but Texas is fairly loose on the matter.

Here is an interesting table with the applicable laws by state.
