No 4x4 traction in 4 inches of snow??

Before buying new tires I'd try the next storm with traction control off. The all season tires suck but not that much. Traction control sucks and just pulls throttle when wheel spin is detected and you go nowhere.

Its gotta be the wheels, i have stock wheels and only have probblems getting going in the snow and i live in the snow belt. We got over 28inches in less then 24 hours last year

Don't think it's the equipment. More like the operator. LOL 4 inches...not to be rude or anything ahah

 

That being said we had a real early snowfall this fall, I was out rippin around in my woman's car with all seasons on it in 10" of snow ahah. I felt like Tokyo drift driver :-D

AT tires are hit/miss for winter performance. Folks get stuck with them all the time. It depends on brand and type. If you live in a mild climate AT tires are o.k. If you really deal with ice and hard packed snow and hills, go with a dedicated winter tire (softer/grippier rubber) over a general purpose AT tire which I find is more for show than go.

from driving my 4x4 silv with HT tires for a winter, i found that you just have to get enough speed and dont be afraid to give it some gas and you can go anywhere

 

even if the hill is a 4 percent incline with 4 inches of snow and you have the best snow tires made, your going to get stuck if you try and go up the hill at 0.05 MPH

Agreed. Turn that traction control crap off and let the tires do their job.

Tires can absolutely, positively make all the difference in the world. My old Tacoma went from mediocre to no problem with a good set of tires. My current GMC went from really good to "un'friggn stopable" with a new set of good tires. Years ago I had a Ford Explorer with poor tires, it would spin all 4 in the snow. Would not go anywhere. Different tires and away we went.

With the G80 already installed, and 4HI engaged, and traction control off...that rig of yours should go anywhere you point it...even with stock tires. Although a more dedicated winter/snow tire might help even more.

 

not true if the tires are crap . I had to help tow out a 4x4 silverado that was stuck in about 4 inches of snow and he was on the flat. He just had no traction all 4 tires where spining . I took my 2wd truck and helped him out i had lots of traction with my good winter tires.

I've had the G80 locker in my last 2 trucks. In most cases it is helpful but there are times where it can be a little hairy. I have had mine lock while turning a corner in the snow and almost immediatly there is 21' of truck sideways in the road!
