Farewell GM, youve never done me wrong...

Some asked for an update on pros and cons. Since I havent had an opportunity to really put this thing to work yet, mostly they are comfort or cosmetic things....

I dont like the tailgate design near the handle, The top, above the handle (where you lift and put it down, is painted, whereas it was a plastic top, or 'lip' on my Sierra. After years of opening and closing, hand-on-paint, I can see that portion getting worn, chipped etc. Heaven forbid you wear a ring, and now its contacting the paint everytime you lift/lower the gate.

The column shifter, when put into drive, completely blocks the the 4WD knob. So at a quick glance, you can't see the position of the knob. However, to counter this, unlike my Sierra, the instrument panel has an indicator light for '4WD' to let you know, so really its a moot point. But still you have to lean forward ackwardly each time you turn the knob if you aren't familiar with the positions when shifting it on the fly (in D)

That said, the lack of an 'AUTO' 4WD mode sucks. We had a minor snowfall the other day, and it was 'patchy' to say the least, not really comfortable with locking it in fulltime 4WD when there dry patches, mixed with snowy patches. With all the torque in the backend, and no load, pulling off from a stoplight in 2WD is tricky on a snow patch.

Props to the Ram for the little things like an underhood lamp (that I didnt have to install myself) and subtle ambient lighting in the doors to illuminate the storage compartments and the handles. Storage areas are WAY more plentiful than the Sierra. Two storage compartments in all four doors, dual glove boxes, two levels in the centre console, built-in compartments under the back seat (one side is the subwoofer though) AND in-floor bins(lids are flush with the floor) under the rear floor mats when your feet would be, designed to hold drinks, ice, liquid, etc. (removable hard 'liners' for draining)

Also, the dog defintiely preferred the flat floor of the back seat area in my Sierra crew (I didnt have the optional underseat orage bin). In the Ram, they have built-in storage right into the floor with lids, so the floor is raised under the backseat. So the dog stumbles around over this tiered floor when driving. Also, loading something big in that area with the seat folded up is a pain in the ass with the half-half floor level.

Another thing I like, the cargo light that illuminates the box has its own switch! You dont have to turn on the interior light control to light it up. Minor thing, I know.

Can't really compare engine or performance, since I went from gas to diesel, and there's nothing similar lol I am managing to keep my efficiency numbers similar to that of my Sierra though.

Oh, and the heated steering wheel is amazing on cold mornings ;)

I know someone that worked for cummin's for 30 years and swears by them. He has 4 dodge diesel trucks. Hope the truck works out well for you. They are too noisy for me but thats just me.

I dont think the newer models or noisy at all compared to an older 12V.. that you could hear a 1/2 mile away

i'm surprised your Longhorn doesn't have this. my lower trim package Bighorn has the Auto 4WD transfer case. must be something they left off of the HD trucks in 2011.

edit: this isn't bragging. my truck cost probably $20K less than yours did when they were both new

Because in Canada we get raped. Vehicles and gas/diesel is more expensive I know lots of guys who go on vacation and come back in New cars and sell em for a profit
