im planning on buying a raptor 700 this weekend, but i found out it dosent have a title. i live in PA, and would be buying the raptor in Deleware. in pa you need to have your atv registered and im assuming you need a title to do so. is it possible to get a title or any proof of ownership in pa?

the seller of the raptor says we can run the vin when im there and he will write up a bill of sale with his info on it. he says the person he bought it from lost it.

is this something i should stay away from? i really want the raptor and it is a really good deal.

any advice?

I would have him get written proof from the DMV its clean. All he would need to do is go there and explain why he needs it. That, with a written receipt, should be all you need to register it into your name in PA.

"Lost" titles can be re-issued. Check everything out thoroughly

X2. I had to have one reissued for an off road truck I had. When I went to sell it I had lost the title. I forget the exact process but I went to a DMV location and was able to get a new title.

If Delaware does not title ATVs just like here in NJ, you would need a notarized bill of sale from him stating the VIN, sellers name, date, price and possibly the certificate of origin. That should suffice for PA. I guess a quick call to DCNR should also be able to help.

Some of you may be confused. Some states DO NOT issue titles for ATVs. NJ for example does not issue titles for ATVs and trailers under 2500lbs. A certificate of origin is something that an ATV or trailer has from the manufacturer which is not a title. When I sell a trailer or ATV, I have to provide a notarized bill of sale and the registration to the new buyer. This is what would be needed to register it. Obviously if states do issue titles for ATVs that it is up to the seller to provide. This drives me nuts with NJ. They should just issue titles for everything.

i agree, i dont know why they wouldnt title them. there has to be a logical reason that they dont give a title.

whats annoying about PA is that in order to legally own an ATV, you have to have them registered with a plate on them. in order to reg your NEED a title. the cops dont care if i ride on the streets where i am but if they happen to not see a tag on the ATV they could take or ATV or just fine them.

now in PA dirt bikes do not have to have a title because you dont need to register them..dosent make much sense to me

craig where are you in NJ?

I am in West Milford, NJ. I belong to the Lehigh Valley ATV club in PA. I registered my quad as an out of state resident by simply faxing my certificate of origin (which is not a title) and proof of insurance. A week later I had a plate and registration. All NJ members of our club do this since there is no reason to pay money for registration in NJ since there is no legal place to ride in this state, I would rather give my money to PA.
