so, who has taken advantage of the low mortgage rates?

I am in the refi processr right now. I had been saving to pay off the house early and dumped it all into making the new mortgage lower. Cut off $250 while cutting my term also(could have cut more but chose to retain my remaining term). My new balance is 55% lower than when I took out my original 7 years ago. Going to use the extra to pay off house even faster. Going to try to speed run through what is left. Might need a C7 in a few years ;)

We refinanced 2-3 years ago at 4.49%, which was then thought to be the bottom percentage possible. It was also decreased to a 15 year note. My credit rating with at least one of the bureaus was over 800 at the time, so once I Googled it, I started getting emails and calls constantly.

 

Fast forward to now. I've wanted to refinance for a year, but my employment has been spotty. We could probably refinance just on wife's income, because she brings home almost 1.5 of my income. But I do make a good living when fully employed, so I'm waiting.

 

You may have seen my thread about my new job. I start it on Monday. After I've been working a month or two, I'll be heavily interested in another refinance. Hope to get a % in the 2's.

I just bought a new house in August and got a 3.5% rate on a 30 year fixed. Knocked $450 a month off of my mortgage payment from my old house which I bought in '05 and my new house was $100,000 more. Very happy

I just paid off a second mortgage n August. Just this week I refinanced the first to a 15 year at 2.99%. Next payment is in January and its only going up $73/month going to a 15 instead of 30 year.

I wasn't extremely happy with the rate, but the offset was absolutely ZERO fees. They just roll me into my new payment. After looking at the fees I would have paid for a lower rate, it wouldn't have offset by the time I have it paid off in a few years.
