dash cam

Hi,

the other day I ordered a dash cam. Just a cheap one for the work truck.

The reason is simple: I live and work in Vancouver....lol.

Ok, in the near past there were so many close calls what made me thinking about buying a dash cam.

I could prove my innocence in case of an accident caused by another driver.

The rumor is also that ICBC likes to share the blame between the drivers.

Do any of you guys have a dash cam? Came it in handy already?

I'm already thinking about to buy another (better) one for my Sierra.

Hi Ryan;

As stated above you just attach it to the windshield and plug it into the cigarette lighter (if still equipped...lol).

...If you get into an accident all the BS stories evaporate as soon as you say you have a dash cam...

That alone is worth the money. Since you can get cameras starting at 50 bucks. Ok, the quality is not the best.

That's why I'm thinking about this one for my Sierra:

I found the same model for about 200 bucks. Just can't remember the website anymore...

Just bought an Itronics ITB-100HD to replace my 4 year old Sony dash cam. Anyone that does not run a dash cam is gambling. If you get into an accident all the BS stories evaporate as soon as you say you have a dash cam. The Itronics ITB-100HD has a auto crash sensor too.

looks nice . what is on your rear view mirror ? I got rear ended before sitting at a yield waiting to merge into traffic. I moved slowly up a little to see better and the next thing i know bang and still have a dint in my bumper. The guy basically took off.

I have one of those cheap radar detector-shaped ones from DealExtreme. It's my second one so far (my first one still works) but the screens on both of them didn't last for more than 3 months. The blue light on the camera blinks when it's recording, so I know when it's on and it automatically starts recording once it's turned on. Every once in a while I take the memory card out and plug it into my computer to make sure that it's still going and, sure enough, it is!

As for power, they came with cigarette lighter power cords. I just installed an add-a-circuit from the local auto parts store and I use that to power an extra cigarette outlet that I have zip-tied under the dash above my feet. The power cable I ran through the pillar and under the ceiling liner and down with the wires that go to my rear view mirror. It looks clean, with no random wires hanging out in my truck.

Stock picture. The Itronics ITB-100HD is on order and should be here late next week. My cameras get hard wired. Seen many videos from the Itronics and they match my current Sony in quality. Here is a clip of my Sony. Typical Highway Patrol radar encounter:

Looks like the Sony works great, why are you replacing it? Want to sell it?

The Itronics ITB-100HD seems to be the one.

Bought one too.

Thanks for sharing.
