I was at one of my local dealer ships purchasing parts for my truck. On my way out I stoped by the service desk and spoke with one of the service writers and oil change prices. While speeking to him i began to complain about the towing performance of my truck. AFM completely ruins this truck for me. I very frequently tow 6-8k regularly with my truck takeing cars to the spray booth on base and back. It is very annoying with a load of that size when it goes into v4 mode even with the tow hual button. Come on would you tow 8k with a honda civic? If so your a dumb@** lol. In this case it is our wonderful gm engineers that think it is a great idea. I know the truck know when it has a heavy load and you would think AFM would have a set parameter to keep it from doing that but apperently not. Now to the shocking part. He suggested I take my 2012 and get it tuned because it fixed his and his buddies issues lol. I thought he was being a smarta$$ at first kind of like deal with it or go home but he was dead serious. He did also suggest i bring my truck in to make sure my ecu is on current firmware and see if they can tweek it a bit for me. Hopefully it can be fixed because as of right now this 5.3 sucks. Hell i would love to throw the cam that is my 6.0 in there. I bet that profile when properly tunned would be perfect, but i would need hydro boost for that cam to properly operate my power brakes. I do not forsee me keeping this truck long with performance like that.

NHT.

I had a 2008 with 5.3 and 3.42. No complaints about the towing ability of that truck but I wasn't towing as heavy loads as you are. The 6.2 with 3.73 will snatch the hitch off the trailers I tow. :)

It is not the taking off it is the maintaining of highway speeds. When it goes into afm the truck instantlly bogs down and the speed just falls. I figured in manual it would still cut cylinders.

Would that stop it from going in v4?

Running it in M5 (or anything other than M6) will disable AFM. In town, I ALWAYS drive in M4 or M5 to keep the trans from dumping into 6th and using AFM. Probably costs some fuel but the truck drives 100% better. But even in M6/D my truck is rarely in AFM mode. Doesn't seem to run at 80-85 even in the flat midwest.

If you knew you would be towing all the time why did you even think about AFM in the first place???? Pretty hard to rag on GM when you were the one who purchased the vehicle knowing it had it...maybe next time invest a little time in researching about a vehicle before you buy it.... Just my .02

AFM is not a choice in the US and i like my Chevys and every one raves about thier performance on here. The numbers at the dealer say it towed what I needed to tow and was told the tow button disabled AFM. AFM is great when I am not towing. The three different dealer I spoke with were under the impression the truck would not go into v4 model. The main reason for this thread is the service department suggested me to get it tunned. Also if no one brings this up some one else will buy it with the same assumtion I did, so what is the problem for throwing it out there? GM shure as hell will not tell you that. Anyway why would it ever be a good idea to tow in v4 mode? Unlike most people who buy truck I use mine as intended. If you feel I should have gotten a more powerful truck why don't you come down here and buy it for me. This is all I could afford to get paying cash. If I could have gotten a 6.2 or dmax in a single cab short bed believe me I would have. Short wheel base truck manuever trailer better from my experience.

First of all, I'd be happy that you found a dealership that not only won't void your warranty if you tune it...but they actually recommend it! That's awesome, haha. Possible loss of warranty is the only reason I haven't tuned mine yet. Also, if you don't want to tune it, just run it in M5 and you won't have to worry about AFM

Except if something big fails, GM will still ask them for the PCM data and they'll still see the tune and warranty will still be denied.
