Outdoorsman
I see where there is talk on adding DEF to the fuel. Is DEF a generic term for this or is it a specific product. I found Diesel Fuel Supplement with Cetane Boost by Power Service at my local farm and home store. Is this the same or do I even need it? i have a 2008 Sierra Duramax. 00Silverado4x4
Don't quote me but I'm pretty sure 2011 was the first year for the DEF.
HEMICAT
Yeah I think you are confused outdoorsman. DEF or diesel exhaust fluid is a seperate fluid in it's own tank on emissions diesels 2011 and up.
Prokopchuk_9
Do not put DEF in your tank!! You have an LMM with DPF not the new style urea injection. Cetane boost is okay, just buy good fuel. The best thing you can do for ur dmax is pcv reroute, EGR blocker, cat filter adapter(so you can run 10 micron cat fuel filter) DPF delete and a good EFI tune. Run forever that way. Outdoorsman
Sorry, I lumped DEF with fuel additives. What fuel additives does everyone use? How often should I add it to the tank and where's the best place to buy it?
Prokopchuk_9
I use diesel kleen in every tank, the anti-gelling cetane booster...get it from Canadian tire
Cowpie
Schaeffer makes a very good diesel fuel treatment, with varieties for both summer and winter. I have been partial to their products for several years. Another sleeper product out there that does a great job is the XLP Diesel Fuel Cleaner and winter treatment that Amway sells. It is made by Chevron and the cost is reasonable per application. A friend's son prompted me to give it a try. I ran it for 2 winters in my two semi trucks. It did a great job. Cowpie
We all like to do some things for general diesel fuel that helps with it's unique issues. But there is only one fool proof cold weather treatment. Arctic Fox inline fuel heaters. They are 12V electric, driver selectable on and off, and don't use a lot of power. Even at -40F, flip the switch for a couple of minutes before starting up, and you will have a pleasant no fuel problem startup. Leave it on while driving if temps are going to be in the basement. You can still use your additive of choice, but this will guarantee safe results. http://www.arctic-fox.com/products/hotline174-electric-in-line-fuel-heater
