Saw this on the road today... I thought it was hilarious.

I guess the main issue is we have real different ideas of what "fast" really means.

And you have only reiterated my point. Trucks are intended to be used for hauling, towing, and moving things. GM did not design the Silverado to be fast. It takes a 3rd party to add $16,000 worth of options to make it so. The AC seats and all the other luxury options do not change or alter what the truck is made to do. It just make the experience more pleasant to some.

This is all goes back to the comment when some said "hope he has the mods to back that up". I guess I should ask what "mods" he was referring to. I assumed go fast mods, but I could be wrong. Not sure how a Tundra is less cute because its faster?

I also bought before trucks turned to high tech and delicate. I am happy with my truck but wish the MPGs were better at times. Just dont want better MPGs to replace durability and power.

Which I agree is happening very quickly.

Well, I'm glad some of you saw where I was coming from. As for what trucks are "intended" to be used for, I believe that to be subjective. I think they are intended to be used for whatever the owner wants to use them for. As far as the Silverado not being designed to go fast, I'd say a sub 15 second quarter mile in a bone stock 6.2 liter crew cab isn't slow. Pretty sure that the Silverado SS wasn't designed to be slow either. As far as what fast really means, well, ask the guys at work with the WRX and the Camaro SS. They were "designed" to be fast, and had a clear view of the blacked out bowtie on the back of my utilitarian vehicle.

Zach, that truck has practicality written all over it. You can stop anywhere you want and play roulette, or get the broken down covered wagon next to you back on the road again...

the people i know that love toyotas are the people we all cant stand because they think they know what they're talking about and usually end up getting their vehicles smashed up by other people because they run their mouths..

anger issues ? Who cares if someone thinks your truck is shiat and there is gods gift to man kind . That gives no right to hit them or there truck that they worked hard for . Its a BIG world just drive away or walk away.

I understand that a good car is inherently faster than a truck but we can all have fun racing a faster vehicle with an arrogant and less skillfull driver, or maybe just having fun with friends for the challenge. And holy crap Jonathan's Callaway has GOT to be fast man, come on!

Amen.................. If the guy does not understand having a "fast" truck tells me he never had one and cannot afford one..........;)

Please... I have been drag racing for 15 years. I just have a broader image of what fast is. A 1/2 ton truck that would run 15sec in the 1/4mile is not fast, sorry. A Grand AM or Malibu can do that. If you really think a race between 2 trucks is intense or exciting, then you need to get out more.

And as far as "affording" one... really? When you can afford to build a race a sub 8sec drag car, then come talk to me about being able to "afford" it. Motors alone in my field cost more than most trucks. That's a really ignorant statement.

Toolman, we've been entertaining you and your opinionated, belittleing remarks for a bit now. From trucks aren't supposed to be fast, to know one ever produced a fast truck from the factory, not GM Ford or Toyota (again SRT10 F150 Lightning TRD Tundra Silverado SS), to we don't know what fast is. You've even gone so far as to tell us that our trucks are high tech and delicate. And now you let us know that you have more money than us and we don't know what exciting is.

First, any competition between two parties that are relative to each other in speed or talent can be just as fun as top fuel drag racing. As for a 14 second grand am or mailbu, bullsh!t. Check the facts before you sign up on a forum and start throwin around your anger. My wife has a malibu that my vortecmax walked easily and the 6.2 is faster than the vmax by a good bit. If you look back at history some of the best muscle cars of the day were running about 14 to 15 second quarter mile times. Were there quicker? Of course. Are there quicker today? Absolutely.

Second, do you suppose that the top fuel drivers are laughing at your 8 second car? I doubt it. Are they looking down their noses at you and making pompous ass remarks like "Please, I've been drag racing for fifteen years and I just have a broader image of what fast is. If you really think that a race between two 8 second cars is intense or exciting, then you need to get out more. Motors alone in my field cost more than your 8 second car." What would you think if you heard that from somebody that had just joined your 8 second car forum? What if everybody had tried politely to explain their viewpoint and the new top fuel a-hole kept knocking down your collective explainations and basically calling everybody slow, stupid and poor? Except for you Coolmaker, you, in Toolman's esteemed 8 second fifty thousand dollar motor(engine really) opinion made and ignorant remark, so therefore you are ignorant.

Let's see pics of this 8 second car, this fifty or so thousand dollar "motor", next to your truck, with a pic of the E.T print out from the dragstrip. If it ran under 8 seconds, you kept the slip. I would love to see what you have that is so much more intense and exciting than my slow and delicate supercharged Silverado that still pulls over ten thousand pounds and whether you like it or not is fast as he!!.

My last comment was only directed at Coolmaker. He decided to make an ignorant comment (of which you agree) and I felt the need to reply on it. My "pompous" comment might have gone too far, but a lot of the commenters (other than yourself) have been way off base. I guess I took some of it personally when I shouldn't have. But clearly his was personal.

I have not once degraded your particular truck, and even gone as far as saying I like it and think its really cool. I started racing a Grand Am in high school, and it ran 15s bone stock, I never said 14s. I raced that car for 3 years, I knew it very well.

Everyone is entitled to their view point, I will agree. Mine is that a stock, run of mill truck, is not fast. I dont think that it will change.

Clearly the topic has gone way off base, and I will take partial responsibility for that.

I may not agree with you on certain points, but I do appreciate the fact that you don't just through out random, ignorant, uneducated comments like some. If you are really interested in pics or vids of the car I will gladly PM them to you. No need to go any further off topic.

Thank you Morgan.

I'm curious Toolman, why would you race a 15 second car for three years if it wasn't intense or exciting? I bet it was both when the car next to you was slowly fading or slowly gaining as you rapidly approached the finish line... Same thing for us, for trucks.

I too took the posts personally, I, like most everyone here, love my truck. I don't consider it to be slow, unexciting or delicate. I consider it's intended purpose to be whatever I want it to be. It is difficult to hold back when someone tells you that trucks are slow, delicate, and not meant for much other than utilitarian type duty. Our trucks are fast to us, hill climbers and off roaders to some rock crawlers to others, dune runners to people like Sarah, heavy haulers to many. Family haulers, pre runners, heavy equipment haulers, grociery getters, drag racers and taxi cabs for soccer moms, trucks are everything these days, and everything to the people that work hard to own them and take pride in that ownership. If I got too personal, my bad. As for the pics, I bet more than just myself would like to see them. This post is in the lighter side of trucks, not "my truck is on fire", I'm sure the moderators will let 'em slide, they're car(truck) people too. Goodnight all, I'll be looking for those pics tomorrow morning after work Toolman

Ok let's get this straight me and my friends are not the ones doing damage.. There's a couple guys that talk alot of shit and are so hard pressed on Toyota that they cause trouble with OTHER people and they get their shit wrecked this town is full of **** me and my group just stay out of it because we're not down with that we don't want our shit smashed.. ****ed up but true.

I think "fast" is a relative term. I know my truck isn't the fastest out there, but man I have so much fun every minute behind the wheel. I have driven way faster cars, but there is something about moving this much weight as effortlessly as a 90's Camaro. But..... ask me if I still felt my truck was fast if I lined up against Jonathon's Callaway, any modern half-ton or good car, heck any soccer mom's 300 hp minivan or family sedan............... see what I mean- relative.

My little truck is fast enough for me even tho its just a 4.3l it moves a couple of ATVs just fine. I feel fast with a mountain bike going down hill and not making a turn and hurting myself lol. I like to get up to speed with trafic but going fast is really not a concern for me as long as I have some passing power and can maintain a hill fine.

I am sure my next truck will feel really fast to me when I get a V8 but for now my little truck feels fast enough.
