Trucks have changed over the years

My co-worker's old GMC (think it's a 55) next to my 2007. Look at the difference in bed height! Man it used to be easy to lean over and put a cinder block in or pull something out - now you've gotta be 6'6" or something to do that.

Granted, the new ones are better in almost every other way (mpg, safety, power, etc) but that old 55 still has a lot of fun in it. He's about 80% done I'd wager - just polishing up odds and ends on it.

I passed an old 50s Chevy Sunday night on the highway and had the same thought, thinking about how much vehicles have changed. Earlier that day there was a car show in town and I was behind an old Model T that was chugging down the road. Real neat to see one actually being driven. The driver and passenger looked like they might be original owners too!

Yeah, they've changed a lot. Like you said, the new trucks sit up so much higher. Getting things into and out of the bed is more difficult. The new trucks are wider and more difficult to find parking spaces for too. Parking spaces seem to be built for small cars, not new trucks!

Depends on where you live. Most parking lots around here are plenty wide enough. But out in Commiefornia when I go there on business I'm thankful I always have some sort of sedan.

I live in north Louisiana. Seems they build parking lots around here for small cars, not trucks. The plant where I work was built in the early '50s and I don't think the size of the parking spaces have changed a bit since the plant was built!

The parking lot spaces here are pretty good, usually at least 6 inches on each side. The marked parallel parking spots, though... Forget it. Parked in one yesterday, on the end of the block of course, otherwise I'd have no way to get back out. :rollin:

There are features of the 1990 I definitely miss. Like the cool fabric door panels, ride, awesome mudding ability, even the smell of the cab, which still smelled good after 22 years. There was just something about it that I can't replace, even with all this truck has. Chevy runs deep. :)

I live in California (not a Commie - in fact I don't even know any. Weird.) and the parking lots here are highly dependent on where you are. Some are really tight for a full size truck, but there's a shitload of full-size SUVs and trucks out here, so it's not too hard to find a parking space that's big enough. Most major shopping centers and whatnot have big enough spots. There's a few exceptions but it was no different than when I lived in Colorado.

In Bakersfield, this is mainly a truck town but spaces are still small.

And the Commies are the politicians here

i hope your not serious about the "cool fabric door panels"

i too had a GMT400 and while it was a good truck, the 800's are way better

GMT400 was the last generation to have small block engines that produced healthy torque at a realistic/usable RPM. That alone negates the idea that "800's are way better".
