New phone time..

So my new every 2 is up tomorrow through verizon. Tho i am not excited about being pushed from unlimited data to limited pending on how much i buy (most likely 2gb).. I am looking forward to a new phone.

I currently have the Droid X.

I have narrowed it down to 2 phones.

Droid Razr Maxx. and the Samsung Galaxy SIII

I like the droid for the battery and the durable case.

I like the SGS3 for the screen size, and new features on the phone.

Both have gorilla glass. But the SGG3 shows in the drop test the screen is very prone to breaking. and the case back flys off when dropped.

Now I have never dropped my current droid X ever before, but its good to know if a accident occured, the phone could hold up.

Anyone have either? I'm weighing towards the razr maxx.

I don't have the phones that you mentioned but if you purchase insurance it doesn't matter if your phone breaks. Mine if like $1.50 a month for my iPhone, they replace it free of charge but only if you get the insurance when you upgrade.........just something to think about.

get the samsung, I got mine last week, best damn phone I have had in several years, I've had the Droid X, HTC Thunderbolt, Droid 4 and Droid Razr in the past 2 years (I manage the phones for my company and as employees come and go I get my pick of the returned equipment).

The Galaxy S III is the first new phone I have had in 2 years that wasn't a hand me down because my renewal came up last month.

I can tell you this, the droid X, droid 4, and Droid Razr (maxx is same phone with bigger battery BTW) all have hic-ups that are beyond annoying, and it has to do with the Motorola GUI for the Android, they freeze, they stop syncing email, and they can't switch between wi-fi and 4g (if you are on wi-fi then go out of range you have to shut off the wi-fi for the 4g to pick up internet and email sync, otherwise it just hangs and says page cannot be found).

My HTC never had this issue, and so far it doesn't appear that the Samsung does, I have a good relationship with our companies Verizon Sales and Tech Rep and he has indicated that the Motorolas are known for these issues, and unless you Root the phone and remove the Motorola crap you are stuck with these issues.

While the Motorola has a slicker case and seems to handle dropping a little better, to me it doesn't justify the issues it has, and a in fact getting an otterbox for the samsung will solve the dropping issues you are concerned with, or as stated above just pay the $6 a month for full insurance, I do..

Do you have it through verizon? i thought it dosent come out till the 12th?

I have an otterbox defender and insurance for my droid x i have now. Never dropped mine yet / or had to use insurance. I'm extreemly careful with my phone.. but if it should happen id like to be protected.. I probably would have to go with a otterbox again if i got the samsung.

I dont know if i would go with insurance again tho. Seeying as how u do pay $80-100 for a refurbed phone if u do put a claim in. i dont think its worth it.

Neither, here's why :

Motorola GUI sucks! It's not user friendly, period. Only thing Motorola androids are good for is of you're going to root it with a custom rom, and even then, it will have it's problems!

Samsung galaxy siii is outdated. They brought out the siii line to buy them time for the release of their new line coming in just a few months. Other than it being outdated, it's overall a good phone.

Every three months, I get a new phone thru at&t, just got the siii couple weeks ago. It has no noticeable differences between the sii.

If you're an average user (guessing so as you said 2gb would be enough) then just get the iPhone. IPhone is such a novice phone. Only time I get an iPhone is when new models are released, a week later they're sending me one yo try and I've never liked them! They're beginner phones.

I just got the GS3 and so far I think it's great. I had the iPhone for the last 3 years or so and the GS3 is so much nicer. It does feel light and seems like it would shatter if I dropped it. Like someone said get the insurance if you like, an otterbox case and you should be good to go. Also watching Netflix on the GS3 is awesome.

I love my Razr Maxx. The battery life is outstanding and the signal is STRONG. Some of the problems mentioned above with the MOTO GUI were remedied by the ICS update. I liked the phone with Gingerbread, I LOVE it with ICS.

The more i'm reading up on phones now, makes me want to wait for the Razr HD to officially be announced. Possible Specs on that phone so far list it with 4.6" HD screen / 13 MP camera! / 1.5GHZ processor / 3300 MAH battery!

I think it might be worth at least to wait to see what this offers. I think they should try and get it out sooner than later tho. They might loose a lot of people to the S3 . There are a lot of people on the edge between these two phones.

possible leaked photos..

I have the Maxx. Love the battery life. The screen may not be as good as the S3 but its a quality phone. Signal strength is solid and call quality is great. No matter who you ask everyone is going to have a different response due to brand loyalty and so on. I would try to hold out till the RAZR HD comes out should be a month or so. ICS has changed a lot with Motorola's old blur U.I. ICS on the RAZR is clean and very much like the real ICS on the nexus line. Here is a great place to look for info www.androidcentral.com I've been a member there for a long time and have done my fare share of rooting and ROM'ing and many different devices.

Also you have the option to buy any phone at full retail price and you can keep your unlimited plan.

As far as insurance goes I've never heard of a plan that doesn't require a deductible. As far as I know it's a $50 deductible if you need to get a new phone on top of the monthly fee they charge for insurance.
