Our dog got skunked!

Last night our dog Roxie, she is a Corgidor, (the Corgidor is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Labrador Retriever and the Corgi). Anyway she was in our driveway and went to the bushes between our house and the neighbors house and she starting trying to bite something. When I went to look to see what she was doing, all I saw was a black furry thing with that familiar "White Stripe.".

The dog got some on me rubbing up against me, but I stripped down and washed the clothes with that skunk cleaner.

Well to make a long story short we bathed her with skunk cleaner, and also pet shampoo and then this morning took her to the groomers to get cleaned up.

It seems that all day, even at work, things smelled like skunk. Tonight every once in a while, even my wife says that she can smell the smallest scent of skunk anywhere.

Our dog is completely exhausted. She is just not the dog she was two days ago. At dinner time we saved some steak for her and she sniffed it and walked away. We were completely shocked that she didn't devour it down. Well maybe in time she will come around.

I think she got some skunk stuff in her nose and I am sure she can't smell anything but skunk.

Now the task of trapping the skunk since the city and county will not do anything about it.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

Our beagle has been on the business end of a skunk twice! Tomato juice takes the smell out. Put the dog in the tub and pour a gallon on the fur and let it soak. Then wash out with pet shampoo. The dog will be off fir a few days but will come around no worries.

Visiting friends.

Overnight.

Let dog outside real early in morning.

Heard a commotion under front porch.

All happened very quickly.

I was half asleep and didn't initially realize exactly what happened.

I immediately got dog inside house. Then immediately back outside as the smell arrived.

My dog got a minor spray of skunk living under front porch.

I ended up hiring a commercial cleaning company to clean all of the friends carpets.

As said I would tomato juice or canned on the dog. In the house its just going to take time. Your clothes will smell like skunk. It just lingers for a couple of weeks. Your dog will bounce back after some time.

My Lab got skunked last sumer. She came running into the garage and started rubbing her face into the carpet then there was the smell, overwhelming! She had it in her eyes and everything. Had to keep her inside the garage with the both bay doors open until I went to the store to get stuff to clean her with. Picked up a bunch of peroxide, baking soda and dawn dish soap. Took the smell off of her and cleared up her skin from being all red. Baking soda mixed with dawn dish soap also took the smell out of the carpet.

Yeah, I was going to mention the peroxide/dishsoap/baking soda too.

The smell will go away eventually but you just have to wait for it to wear off. For a few months you'll still smell it every time the dog gets wet too.
