Brake controller

I have a Hayes Energize iii brake controller. I have it set up properly with the pendulum set with gravity. If I manual move the slider it applies the trailer brakes. Automatic does not work. No brakes at all. Is there something I am missing? I bought the controller used so maybe it's faulty? Anyone else have one of these controllers?

I don't have a Hays controller but I just put a Tekonsha P3 in my truck and it works really well pulling my 6500lb. TT. It was easy to wire up too.

I got it work. I had to mess around with the little arm on the side of the controller to get it to work right. Now it slightly applies the TT brakes when going down hill to help keep speed down and applies the brakes increasingly as you get on the brakes.
