Thinking about some new shocks for a 99 Z71.

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I've got a 1999 Silverado Z71 with 138,000 miles and lately I've been thinking about putting on some new shocks. I wouldn't be surprised if the ones on there are the originals from 99. It doesnt really bounce at all when driving down the road but the ride doesnt really feel all that great but it's not terrible. I pulled one of the shocks off the back a couple weeks ago to see what they were like. I could compress the shock all the way with my hand and it took like 30 seconds for it to fully extend again. I've been looking at the Monroe Reflex Monotube Shock Absorbers since they're geared towards the Silverados with the Z71 package. I was wondering if any of you have them on your trucks and what you all think of them and how the ride is on they highway since thats where I do most of my driving.

Your shocks are done my friend.

I've had mine for the last three years. I love them. My travels take me everywhere (on and off road) in my truck and these shocks have been great all around. Yes they are a little "stiff" but that's what I like, plus I aslo have Z71 so that's what a this truck should be like. I've had them for just over 30k miles so far and they are still like brand new. Highway are great and if you do go off road at any point then you will really appreciate these shocks. If you do get them just make double sure you get the model for Z71 vs non-Z71. There is a difference, what it is I'm not sure.

If you have any other questions I'll be happy to answer or at least help you find one. Welcome to the forum.

The first thing I did on my new 1998 was change the shocks. Blisteins for me too. Stopped the floaty wallowing I higher speeds. Certainly an improvement for my taste.

I don't care about the cost, Bilsteins are on my '91 and they are well worth the money.

I put Bilsteins on my 99 z71 at 3yrs/36k and they improved the ride over highway expansion joints immensely.

I might have missed it, but what version of the Blisteins did you use (front/back)? Thanks,

Hey everyone! I went with the Monroe Monotube Reflex Shocks. I ordered them off the Advance Auto Parts Website. They are a huge improvement over the old worn out shocks. The ride is stiff but not harsh. Overall I'm very happy with them and installation was very easy.

Glad you like them. Happy traveling.
