Towing Noob

Recommended Posts

I have a 2007 GMT800 (Classic) 4WD LS, 4.8L with a 3.73 rear end. I just got a pop up that weighs about 1,800 pounds loaded. I'll be towing it up over the continental divide next weekend and was wondering if I would have any problems. I don't have an auxialliary trans cooler. I know if can pull it, probably not that fast, but it can pull it. Just wonering about the transmission. I do have a scan gauage 2 so I can keep an eye on the temps. I do have the Z85 trailering suspension.

Advice, or what do you think? I won't have time to get an aux cooler before I go.

1800lbs,you could tow that with a 4cyl,doubt you will even notice it's there, you should be ok,as mentioned above just use third on hills.

I towed my 1800# popup with a 4-banger Nissan Frontier, for a total of about 10k miles. Great pair.

You'll be fine. Watch your tranny temps, and is probably just drive in 3rd unless long stretches of downhill or flat. Don't let the transmission hunt or lock and unlock continually.

Enjoy the trip. We are lashing up our hybrid for its first trip this year, in 2 weekends.
