Finally Took the BlackBear plunge

Recommended Posts

After owning an autocal for a month or so now I finally have gotten around to having enough time to dedicate to tuning my truck. Data log has been done (hopefully correctly) and my money has been sent to Justin and Jenna. Needless to say I anxiously await the results and am very excited to see what all the fuss is about. I love my truck and can't wait to love it some more :ughdance:

Congrats. You will be extremely happy with it. Even with 35s and factory 3.42 gears, my 05 4sp blows my wifes stock 09 6 spd tahoe out of the water as far as drivability. It should make your 6spd a totally different animal than it is now.

Been thinking about doing the autocal tune from BB myself.

For those who have had it done, did you notice a change in your MPG up or down? I want to get it to mostly (hopefully) correct what I think is a detonation problem (another thread on this subforum) more then anything else.

Extra performance would be great but the last thing I want is to shorten the drivetrain life becuase of added stresses.

Thanks

Ernie

I had some similar problems on the top end of my RPM range, but Justin adjusted for that and I no longrer get any ticks or pings anywhere in the RPM range.

Thanks man, that helps alot actually. Sounds like my problem exactly. What did it do to your MPG?

I got an 89 octane tune, but I actually noticed a 2mpg drop with 89, so I went back to 87 (still with the 89 tune) and its back to like it was before the tune. Justin said that my mileage COULD increase to the point that it MIGHT offset the cost of 89 over 87. He also said that in some trucks it just doesnt work that way. It really all depends on too many variables, such as driving habbits, terrain, truck condition and options, and even the quality of gas.

I was hoping it would improve my MPG, but as long as it doesnt make it any worse, its worth it just for the increase in drivability. If gas goes down a little more, I may go back to 89 to see if the summer blend affects it any differently than the winter blend did.

Of course, you can see from my signature, I have added a lot of weight to my rig, so I wasnt expecting 20mpg.

Patiently waiting on my end. Will update this thread with my review/thoughts once we get to that point. Was hoping for a mpg increase after it's all said and done but with my requests of more performance..well, we'll see. If I wanted something better on gas I would of left in a 4.3.

Yes and when you get it you login to their site with your autocal serial number

Getting closer I think. Justin got around to looking at my datalogs so maybe by next week I can update the thread with results. Apparently he's not used to seeing the 87 octane piss gas we have here in Indiana. No SMOG though... :ughdance:
