Yes, you can actually. You get estimates, and can have insurance cut you the check for repair costs(sans deductible). If you "know a guy" who will fix it on the side and can come out ahead quite a bit. Edited by SnakeEyes

Never trust or believe an insurance agent.

Yep. I've never let insurance dictate how or who gets to repair my vehicles.

At least yours was fixed. Some of us weren't so lucky... $3555 seems kind of high but with prices these days I guess that's about right. Almost every panel on my truck has a dent or three so I'd probably pay more then the entire truck's worth to fix mine.

That shop did some unnecessary stuff in my opinion. That front fender had no damage but for whatever reason they tore it all off and repainted it

That's how they blend now. They say it's for a perfect match, but I had a body guy tell me it's unecessary if a painter is worth his salt. That guy just sprayed about a foot around the damage on my car at the time and the paint match was perfect. Charged about a third to half of what the other shops wanted because of it. Said he was almost fired from a shop because the manager was getting upset over him not blending further out. Asked the manager to point out where He painted a car and the manager guessed the wrong spot, manager looked like a fool and then got really mad.

He said so many painter's just aren't good enough it's standard practice to paint several feet all around the damage. I'm sure $$$ has a lot to do with it also.
