What did you do with your truck/shop today

I mean, I don't mean to sound like a douche, but if you don't take any care of it and just drive it into things, it's going to look and feel like crap, and that's with any car.

I bought it cause I got a good deal on it not cause I liked it I bought it new for $38 000 its hard to take care of a vehicle you don't like that's why I'm going to dump it off and go buy another new truck but something I actually really like. Iv had it going on three years other then few parts dagling off it its bin a suprisley reliable truck and I abuse the snot out of it every time I drive it.

I'm ex oilfield so is the truck if that explains anything. Was thinking of waiting for this 2016/2017 update and going in and buying a new HD just can't make up my mind on what color I want was thinking red but not sure.

I work oil and utility R.O.Ws for 40 years, my interior stayed spotless and outside got cleaned once a week whether I like my truck or not. I even haul people sometimes, rule no. one keep my truck clean or walk. I hate a dirty truck. If a equipment operator came looking for a job from me in a unkept truck I figured he wouldn't take care of my equipment, think about it.

Got three of the door panels disassembled for the speakers that should arrive tomorrow, to make sure I have them swapped in an an hour or so(my free time limit).

Got the shrink wrap on the wires that I had to strip, to have them ready to solder when the new Head Unit shows up friday. Think I can do that in 2 hours, or less, since once I'm in the truck its just swapping a harness. Just hope the Maesteo programming is easy. All that took under an hour, so Im handily beating the time estimates the shop gave me.

Our work truck is used in the pasture every day over the winter, and sees gravel/mud/fields every day of the summer. But it's kept clean. I like to keep any equipment I'm running as clean as possible too.

My 2006 is the same way. It's not just a pickup, it's my partner and the better I treat it the better it'll treat me.

This is weird. My new head unit I bought from bestbuy is being shipped from Audio America. I went and checked, I did buy it directly from Best Buy, not their marketplace. I know for sure because I used gift cards and RZ certs and you can't use gift cards and RZ certs on their marketplace.

I'm the same way with mine. I paid a stupid amount of money for it, so I've got to take care of it. Need to get at least 30 years out of it to justify the cost. Wishful thinking in this day and age! Just noticed, my rockers are starting to rust. :nonod: If I never washed this thing they probably would've blown out 5 years ago.

The day I spend another mid-5-figures on a friggin GM will be the day I buy oceanfront Nebraska property ....

Man, I think they are still the best thing going value wise...Plus, parts are so relatively cheap when a repair is needed. I can go down to the local ACDelco retail outlet and get factory parts at good prices. You can't do this with any other brand. To me that is huge. Plus, I have become so used to working on GM trucks/cars that I don't think I would be comfortable with anything else, if you can believe that. Re: the rockers- I swear, that liquid de-icer pre-treatment that they are using these days is the worst thing in the world for vehicles. GM does at least still have their 6/100k rust through coverage.

Maybe with the old trucks ... but I find none of that is true today. When the fuel pump fails and you're not set up to tackle that yourself, it's $600 MINIMUM around here. Fuel pump on my '72 El Camino cost $10 and took literally 5 minutes to change.

I do agree with the crap they throw on the roads today. People these days are spoiled and have no personal responsibility - part of the reason this country finds itself where it is today. If the roads aren't completely BARE the night of a major snowstorm, people around here melt down. What ever happened to running SNOW TIRES and TAKING YOUR TIME to get to work?? We got by just fine with 2wd trucks and rear wheel drive cars ... and so did the millions of others up north here. Now if you can't do 60 mph through a storm, people freak out .... and the unintended consequence of that is some MAJOR rust ...

$30k - $60k for a vehicle that only makes it 10 years if you're lucky is not a very good deal in my opinion ...

No truck will be simple to change the fuel pump on. They all require removing the bed or dropping the tank. Thankfully most cars have access panels but for pretty much everything on a full frame you're in for a bit of work.

Never mind that on the German stuff the high pressure pump on direct injection systems is a four figure part before installation. The trucks use a cam-driven HPFP so hopefully that's cheaper.

Growing up in 60s and 70s I can tell you that by 60 to 100k miles you had a rust bucket with one transmission change, radiator, gas tank, a few brake jobs and tune ups. Your warranty was 12-12. The price was relative to the times, I like them much better now.
