My neighbors and I were discussing that last night.  Glad you are okay.  How about the rest of your family?

Fine. I was outside for it loading a package in a friends truck. I got news before he showed up and he told me the were at a house down the road. Then on his way home, the chase passed him

Answered a PM this morning for a member and decided to post here because it may help somebody else with the same problem most common on 02-04 Avalanche and 03-04 others. Concerning instrument panel causing battery drain.

What you need to look for is copper migration on the back of the instrument panel.  Take the cluster out and remove the black back cover. ( 6 clips )

This is what you will see.

On the left around where the oil pressure gauge is, check for darkened copper islets in this area.

You will notice on this particular board 2 have started going dark but not enough to cause your problem.

Yours will have large spots causing bridging, unfortunately I don't have one at hand to show you but it would look even worse than these 3 spots. Here you can actually see possible bridging between an islet and the adjacent trace.

What you will need to do is clean the area in the red square from second picture.  If you have a sanding pen, they work best.

Then to test your work plug it back in and turn ignition "ON" turn it "OFF" and open the driver's door and watch the needles of your cluster. They should twitch about 20 seconds after opening the door.

90% of these problems I solve this way.  Once you are sure that your cluster turns "OFF" and no longer drains your battery take the cover back off and apply a bit of varnish on the trouble spots. I use nail polish just because it's handy.

Been too busy to take pictures of the rust buckets I've been working on, lol. Fixed a mower, and had to repair my equipment (tire machine) and tools - seems to be a trend lately ...

Yesterday, I shoveled at least 20 lbs. of rust from my brother's step-son's '04 Ram 1500, after sweeping the shop when done for the day with it. I had to put the thing in 4-low just to move it from it's parking spot the past 6 weeks, and then again to get it into the shop - I was melting down the passenger-side rear, while dragging along the driver's side, lol.

We yanked out the old rotted out Westin step rails (actually the hardware rotted away, while the rails themselves were still good), the rotted out exhaust system,  planned the repair using what was usable (along with scrap for the tailpipe, with a new Walker OE style muffler), ran to NAPA for exhaust adaptors,  band clamps, & thermostat,  did an engine flush & oil change, plus 8 chinese COP coils and a new set of double platinum plugs - that fixed the random misfire. Also discovered a HUGE vacuum leak in the back of the engine in the PCV hose. Fixed that with some NAPA hose we cut up to fit. What a joy accessing that .. but she's running great now!

We're just getting started - going to need at a minimum an entire rear brake overhaul, every single e-brake cable, probably ball joints on the left side, and we still have to yank off and scrap the bed, which has been riveted and bondo'ed 3x so far, and has nothing left to repair. We'll build a bed out of 2x10 PT lumber at some point. Then to put it on the road and drive to see how many more gremlins pop up. It's a $500 truck, so you get what you pay for ...

Today my brother and I grabbed some lobsters to chow down on with the ol' man, fixed my brother's barely -1-year-old Honda lawnmower (welcome to the 21st Century!),  and washed the Silverado for the 1st time this summer. She was looking pretty bad!  Been slackin'! Volvo was too - gave her a wash as well. Both to the local car wash - don't have time to be scrubbing. :)

Looks easy on YouTube!  An other YouTuber DIYourselfer that completely destroyed the copper islands on the board for the stepper motors.  At least he stopped after the first one.  Then he decided to add more solder to a lost cause.  Then what do you do?  Call Coby7.  I can only perform one miracle a month, hope he appreciates it.

Don’t wreck this one. Don’t need to have another car accident conversation at work

Yup, I had a choice in that matter.

Not saying you did then. You work here, the base is huge but things travel. Wouldn’t have known it was you until a guy at work was discussing your accident.

I just modded up my Weathertech mudflaps with extensions, going hunting in a few weeks and have to drive about 80 miles on gravel.  Also,  I ordered a set of Go Rhino RB20 running boards, I liked shadrickjm's so much I had to get a set for myself.
