What did you do with your truck/shop today

New guy here, bought a 2018 Silverado Custom (traded my 2011 Camaro SS) after deciding to start my own detailing business (part time for now)... anyways, can't leave my cars stock for too long, so I have been doing several mods within the last 6 weeks since I bought it. I lowered 3/5" with a MaxTrac kit, added some Black Rhino Katavi wheels with Nitto 420S, Bak Revolver4 tonneau cover, Speed Engineering LT headers, and my own custom exhaust. Added both front and rear Hellwig sway bars, and deciding what traction bar to get. Truck has a full tune by Henderson Performance Technologies. Changed the door handles for OEM black ones, and I am painting a "paint ready" tailgate handle soon a long with the lower front bumper valance. Still a lot to go, planning on de-badging the truck soon, doing full paint correction (possibly sanding from 1500 - up, but uncertain as this paint is one of the thinnest I have seen in a while for a brand new America car/truck) and installing Opti-Coat Pro+. And I would love to swap the rear bumper cover for the one without the climb assist holes in it. A 2 piece aluminum driveshaft is coming very soon, as we found out the single piece like to go kaboom at high speeds, we tuned in 2nd gear, averaging 300RWH, and in a quick shot at 4th gear stopping around 120 the truck hit around 330rwhp, not bad for an auto 305, when my 04 GTO M6 with headers did only 321.

Once the cost of performance parts start to go down for the LT platform I will be fabricating twin turbo (we are hoping in about 3 years if not sooner).

Nice work with the titanium - looks real nice. Must be light as a feather.

Post some audio when you get a chance - I want to hear those pipes!

Anyway ... on the shop front, finally got the second OE hub bearing in. Long story short, the company didn't have what I ordered in stock (a cheaper but decent quality bearing), so they offered me ONE OE one for the price of the 2 they couldn't get - that was still almost $50 off the OE price. Had to order a second one from another company - took over 10 days to get here! Volvo had been on the lift for 2 friggin weeks!  I get the part, and UPS had been playing football with the package - knocked the outer race right out of the bearing assembly, and cracked it!  Unreal. It was still  usable with the old race installed.  After that debacle, I decided to go through the whole car and fix everything that was bugging me.

(this box was INSIDE of another box!)

Had a solenoid fail inside the floor shifter mechanism that controls the brake/shift interlock. Got tired of 2 handed shifting (pressing the override, then shifting with the other hand), and rather than spend $50 on a new solenoid and a few hours disassembling the complex mechanism, I heated a screwdriver red hot with the torch, and melted the safety catch. Now that sucker will shift no matter what is happening, LOL. Nice to get in and go. I'll have to train my wife to pull the e-brake any time before she starts the engine. It requires some effort to knock out of park, but it's now possible.

Inspected the brakes, and one of those crap Cardone reman calipers I bought failed on the right rear. The piston is so seized, that when I blocked off the opposing piston, fired up the car, and stomped the pedal to the floor, that frozen piston did not budge 1 millimeter! Never seen a caliper that bad in my entire life!

Started tearing down a '06 Kawasaki Brute Force to do a carb clean and valve adjustment. This thing is built like a car - rusty bolts breaking off, speed nuts that had to be cut off, hidden fasteners, and difficult to access areas. Needed to order a clutch puller just to change a belt! Glad I didn't buy one of these back when I was shopping for one. Bought the Sportsman 800 instead in '05, and I still have it.

Parts were backordered almost a month for this lawn tractor that's been in my way here. Just started on that tonight. Someone parked it outside, uncovered, for the entire winter and half the summer. What a mess. Cleaned a huge mouse nest out of the engine a month ago, and reassembled the carb with the new gasket. Still ran like crap, so some mods were needed to the electric fuel cutoff solenoid on the bowl.  I'll finish that one up tomorrow.

I wish that was titanium... plain old 304L stainless... but done right (or wrong depending on the code) you get a lot of nice colors.

Ahh, now I see. Cameras can be deceiving. 304 is miles ahead of what the factory gives us, at least.

Full Ti would've cost a fortune, even DIY ...

Well, not that much better, the new exhaust on most of our trucks and cars now it’s 409, so it will not rust through. You will get surface rust, but that’s just cosmetic. And yes, Ti would had been almost triple what I have spent on this, not counting the argon, as for Ti you need a lot of flow as compared  SS.

That's a nice project you have there.

Thanks!
