What did you do with your truck/shop today

Haven't replied to this thread in a long time....

I repaired a pair of (GOH-FRDPC2002 ) FOBS for a 2005 Ford Exploder. I had to replace all the switches and repair the holes in the button pad since you can't get replacements.  I just used black silicone left it over night then just shaved the excess with a razor blade.

This is what it would have looked like new.

Did this today on the Encore.  Replaced bulbs with LEDs. Couldn't believe one bulb was already burnt.  Wires are really short but it's doable, the left one was easy but the right one was tight. Only used my fingers.

Went out hunting for used parts today. Need to finish the denali swap on the front. Plus I ordered one of those fancy aluminum spares off eBay.

My search for a bumper cover returned nothing but I got this fender

Gotta love the beer-can-strong body metal they use today ...

I actually filled my tank TWICE this month! A new record.

Got a big improvement in fuel mileage after resetting the learned alcohol content a couple months back - was reading over 20%.  After the reset it stays around 3%. Haven't checked it since I've fueled up a couple times.  Went from 12 mpg, back up to around 14.5, which is normal for winter time, especially with how cold it was back in December. Used to get a solid 15 in winter, and 16.5 in summer - might be time for new o2's (or a new engine, lol) ... but at the prices they go for, I think I'll wait until they really fail.

That was a guard rail at 65 mph. I’d say it held up pretty good

I guess so! Ahh, but that's not a GMT-900 - that explains alot.

Mine didn't survive a less than 5 MPH impact with a 3" sapling ...

  • 2 weeks later...

Saturday got off my butt and rotated my tires. I don't know what the dealership did but I needed to use a breaker bar on my breaker bar to get the lugs off. Pretty sure the dealer was the last to have them off. Also found a dead mouse in my center cap. Last time I took the center cap off I had a bunch of acorns/nuts in it. I guess the critters in VA liked my passenger front center cap.

Monday I learned that a few shops in the area can't do an alignment on my truck because it doesn't fit. Already knew I was too fat for my shop but apparently I'm too long for the dealership and a couple other shops. Bought a new 3rd brake light housing while I was at the dealership Monday. I was shocked that they pretty much matched Amazon's price. Pretty sure it was just the parts guy doing me a favor since I've known him for years. Also put LEDs in the cargo lights, huge difference.

Tuesday went to the shop a few people recommended to get an alignment and balance done. They tried to charge me for aluminum wheels, I have steel. "When I glanced at them I thought they were aluminum." On top of that when I called the day before I was told it was $12.50 per tire for balancing, turns out it's $16. Unfortunately balance and alignment didn't help the hop/bounce I have. One day I'll figure it out hopefully. Maybe it's a drive shaft or rear end issue.

HAHAHA! Those little bastards get into everywhere.

One time I poked a nest that was in an outboard boat motor - momma mouse comes flying out with 8 newborn babies hanging off her back! Was a riot - I'll try and post the vid - not sure if it'll work or not ..

You might have to do the old school tape measure & string alignment ...

Tire stores are why I own a tire machine and balancer - had so many screwups by those guys, I'd had enough. Best thing I ever did.

I was backing into my driveway, earlier this morning (O-Dark hundred), when I got home from work, and noticed that the high mount brake lights were shining through the roof liner, in the cab.  Yeah, it gets really dark around here.

Yesterday, I took my truck in to my dealership for service.  I was called shortly after dropping it off and told that it needed new engine and cabin filters.  I was surprised as my truck is low mileage and only sees pavement and mall parking lots.   I also knew the cabin filter was probably a guess because it isn't easily inspected.   After being assured this wasn't just an upsell and making it clear I could only afford what is absolutely necessary I gave them a reluctant go ahead.  At 3 pm I was called to come pick up my truck.  Not only was it spotless inside and out, a full service c/w filters had been completed.  The best part was the bill was about 30% less than anticipated!  I was told this was because I was a such a kind and patient customer.  I left feeling  great personally and It felt like I was driving a new truck off the lot!

Glad to see a good dealership experience. It's been YEARS since I've read of one!

Yesterday, my son and I washed my truck, since it was 70ºF, sunny, and clear out.  Got done around sundown, so no pictures, yet.  Hit 46864mi as we were coming back off of Edwards (before the wash), from lunch and working with a friend's dogs (since they are on vacation), almost took a picture of it in front of NB-52 0008 ("Balls 8," NASA).  OF COURSE, now the wind is blowing, so I expect it to be dusty/dirty again.  :(
