What did you do with your truck/shop today

SO GLAD they don't salt the roads around here. So glad.

They use red rock and sand, but that seems not to be so harsh on the undercarriage and paint, just the damn windshield and chrome parts.

One thing I have found to work well is frequently and thoroughly hosing off the undercarriage. Whenever I get mudpack at all, I'll pay the carwash a visit and rinse it off to the point that I can't see anything. Even after looking hard with a flashlight.

Clyde's in the paint booth, so we are getting closer. Estimate puts completion at Thursday, so we'll see.

Sure does! And here in Michigan they love to use salt. I'd be ok if they just used sand like they do other places. People could just learn to drive and slow down!! Then my vehicles would last longer!

I hear that.

In the last 5-10 years we've noticed a HUGE increase in salt use around here. I think it's driven by insurance companies. They figure they can cut accident claims, and as an added bonus for them, it forces your vehicle into the crusher sooner. The more newer vehicles they insure, the more money they pocket.

Interesting, I never thought about disabling the DRL feature. I really don't need it as I use the driving lights/fogs all the time as running lights anyway. I guess I'll have to look into that. Just pull the DRL fuse if I've got one? I never gave much thought to HIDs since I use my high beams a lot and I always thought that HIDs took a few seconds to come on? So switching low/high constantly would be bad for them, even if the lows stay on when going to high.

Yeah, probably not a good idea to use them for high beams for just that reason.

The Marquis has H4 style bulbs, so they're always on - when you switch to high beam, a metal shade flips from the top to the bottom of the bulb, allowing the light to spread higher in the reflector. The only warm up time with those is when you first turn them on. In my opinion, it wouldn't be safe to wait the 10 seconds or so it takes to achieve full brightness.

There would have to be a delay wired up somehow to keep the low beams lit, until the high beams achieved full brightness. Sounds too complicated to me.

If I remember right, there were 2 fuses I pulled - I believe they were listed as DRL 1 and DRL 2. It's been 10 years, so I could be way off on that.

On the gmt900 trucks the low beams stay on even when you flip on your high beams, only your fogs kick off (some states it's required, others you can wire it so they're always on with low beams). And do a search on Google and you'll find a thread on here regarding disabling the DRL's

Ahh, that's right - forgot about that! My brain is still in the 1986 automotive world ...

The color difference between high and low would annoy me too, even if I can't really see it. I haven't done the fog light mod yet. Did it to my '06 had everything but the DRLs on when I turned the high beams on. Once I get my headlight lenses cleaned I'll have a lot better lighting, just need to get off my butt and have it done.

Got mah truck back :D

They put in the wrong grille, truck is kind of dirty inside, and the headlights weren't aimed, but they knocked the bodywork out of the park. Fender and the rocker panel both look like new. Very happy with the outcome!

Should get my new grille friday, then I will be set.

Got home from work this morning, as I was backing into my driveway, I glanced my left mirror, right as one of my sprinkler valves exploded. So, I've been running back/forth to ACE for parts, that I thought I had, but couldn't find, then for primer/cement, because what I had, had been sitting in my garage for about 8 years. On my way home from, what was hopefully, my last trip for parts, I watched what was my 2010 Ridgeline, make a turn in front of me.

No pics but I washed all the bugs off the grille of the truck and the front of our trailer that accumulated on our 1200 mile camping trip. Man, that was a lot of bugs.
