You guys are that bad, but sometimes with the military it’s like an invasion. If that fancy fighter comes in that we have like 4 of built before yours comes in, we have no room. They bring like the whole crew Chief section

I purchased wheel grease remover and after removing all grease now planning to buy paint for wheels. To make my work easy, I am looking to take a good spray paint for wheels. I am willing to buy VHT Aluminum Wheel spray paint because it has step-by-step paint instructions on the can.

Thank you. Eastwood Rally Wheel Silver Paint is looking good but I think stain black would also be a good choice.

Today, I purchased a truck after not having one for a few years while taking care of my dear sweet old widowed mother as a full time care giver as she battled cancer.  In her passing, she left my brothers and I some $$$ to which I am grateful for.  With me landing a new job I decided it was time to get back into a truck as driving her POS Hyundai Santa Fe had taken it's toll on me.  (My legs and back get sore anytime I drive it for more than 10 minutes, and it had constant reliability issues with it)

Found a 2008 Silverado 2500 Duramax Z71 Crew Cab, black.  187,000 miles but well maintained.  Turns out It was owned by an older gentlemen who passed on last year, leaving it to his widowed wife.  She held onto it for a year and maintained it, and one of her sons who lives close by also owns a Duramax.  My service advisor at the repair facility I go to put me in touch with them and I went out to see it this morning.  It has a few minor things but overall I was happy and negotiated the price to a reasonable offer that I think was a blessing to both her and myself.  So I feel some divine intervention from the almighty above helped in this and I am grateful.  I have the truck at the repair facility now to fix a leaking tranny cooler line (how typical, my prior duramaxes had the same issue) as well as a leaking (minor) power steering hose.  Also going to have the tranny serviced, coolant flushed, thermostat replaced, and drivers door hinge replaced.  Should be driving it next week.

Sorry about your mom, but glad to hear you've got another truck. Glad it's not the AFM 5.3! 

 

 

Worked mine yesterday. Picked up a one-ton van for my cousin - he bought it for $500! Has some transmission issues, but he'll fix it up & paint it.  Was a nice ride out to the Berkshires to pick it up. About 280 miles round trip. First long and heavy haul with the new Ox Locker differential. Had the transmission up to 212° on a steep grade. Engine temp moved right of 210° too. I'd imagine the diff was extremely hot as well. Passed the test.

Thank you sir.  I've always liked the GM Vans.  The ones with the 6.0s especially.  They are hard to come by around here.  While the Sprinter style vans have taken off in popularity, there is a huge market still for the traditional vans.   make sure you check the taillights/brake lights on that thing.  The earlier Savannah/Express vans seemed to have issues with something that would cause the running/parking lights to come on instead of the brake lights so things would be very dim in the back.  I've had to mention to quite a few of the drivers of the vans or call up the companies displayed on the van to inform them of this.  Especially when the top/center mounted brake light is burned out, which is more times than not.  How many miles does that have on it? 

Also- tell me more about that Ox locker?  What was the purpose in going with that?  Did you have the famous G80 blow up?  I had that happen in my old 99. 

 

One more thing- how's your 86 Grand Marquis holding up?  There are 2 of them that I often see around here, and every time I think about your car, but you know what that's like as I've owned a number of Crown Vics over the years and have a love for RWD sedans.   Does yours have the 5.0 or 5.8?  How is the carb on those?  Easy to maintain?  I've been giving some thought into getting a 90 or 91 Vic Police Package as a project/resto.

With the Silverado, I had no noise or any indication of a problem - I just decided to do a gear lube "spill-n-fill", and noticed the PILE of metal stuck to the magnet. I figured right away it was the G80 ... but after closer inspection with a good light, I found the tips of the spider gears were nearly all missing. The chunks went around and ruined the left side gear by embedding the tip chunks in it, nearly severing one gear tooth right off. There is nothing I've done to this truck that would cause that to happen - just crap quality metals used by GM to save a buck. As a side note on that, I also found one of the G80 clutches was burned right to bare metal on one side!

 

My reasoning for going with the Ox was that I wanted something stronger and better made than stock (has 4 spider gears instead of 2), and wanted a better locking mechanism. Since I already had a pair of Viair compressors in the back, it was a no brainer - it was down to the Ox  or ARB. Ox won out due to its ultra-reliable air-only actuation - no cables to seize, and no electric controls to corrode & fail (both are optional on this unit, though). Built right in FL.

The Grand Marquis is still running great, as always. I had to rebuild the OE front left caliper on it a few weeks back - had beed hanging up intermittently over the past 2 years. My fault for keeping the OE fluid in there for 19 years, lol. She's at 264k or so now. This one is multiport FI - the 1985 model year was the 1st year of fuel injection on these. That was a CPI system that was total garbage. In '86, the MPFI was 2,000% better and more reliable. The same basic system is still there from the factory. I replaced the injectors in 2015 or so after breaking a plastic cover off one while attempting removal and cleaning. I sold them on eBay (had 222k on them then), and the buyer said only 2 of the 8 injectors were 3% out of spec! Pretty impressive. On a side note, my '93 Volvo 940 uses the exact same injectors - ultra reliable. Wife was getting up to 24 MPG out of the 5.0 / 302 when I had the eco tires on it. I got rid of them due to ride quality, but I believe it's just the Bilstein shocks aging, since new tires didn't change anything. It's great over the big stuff, but smaller bumps get transmitted right through to the driver and passengers. Noticed the same on the Silverado with the same shocks.
