1500 Whipple Supercharger

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I've been doing a little research and I've decided on a Whipple Supercharger for a 2001 Chevy 1500 5.3L auto with less than 40K miles on it.  I'd like to upgrade the transmission components for better durability, can anyone recommend a torque converter and shift kit?  415HP and 491 lb/ft Torque are the specs with the supercharger added.

Thank you,

Lance

Some things that will help would be to change out the torque converter to a 2600 Yank - I would also suggest that you consider a Transgo Performance shift kit - this will stiffen your shifts and reduce heat - also add a tranny cooler if you don't have one.

You also may want to replace the headers with TOG coated headers - they will give you real gains and work well with the whipple.

With your weight [compared to mine] you should be able to get into the low 14's or high 13's  with decent tires if you can keep it cool. Check out CryO2 Carbon dioxide cooler - or a Aquamist water injection system

One problem that will remain is the Torque Management, for that you will need to get your PCM reprogrammed [not with a HPP3, SuperChip, or Diablo], but something like LS1Edit

BTW, the Volant FIPK works well with the Whipple on the 5.3L. :jester:
