Bilstien Shocks

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys, I’m just throwing this out there. I put in Bilstiens in my 05 Sierra back in 07, I’m not so sure I’m still impressed by them. For one thing they’re incredibly rusty, I know, I know I live in Mass. and that’s to be expected, but it just seems like a lot. As far as the most important part..the ride. I don’t know, it’s hard to say as you always get SLOWLY accustomed to events driving it everyday.

I'd still say it ‘OK’ but seems a little choppy. Am I being overly critical? It’s just when I was researching shocks they where very hyped up, and I got these over the Ranchos I had in my old Grand Cherokee that I loved. I’m interested in yoou guys thoughts, good and bad. Thanks in advance, Jake.

Have mine on for a little over 60k and still perfect. I followed the directions and wipe them down and spray wax on them. No rust! That is through 2 years on the east coast and many Havens in the northwest. My truck is off road at least 3 weekends a month in mud and now snow.still ride perfect and look new. Dunno what's up with your set. I had a set of rancho 9000xl and didn't care for them before these.

The reality is that is 5 years of use on a truck, if you drive on rough roads they are long past their prime. There is a big difference in people having shocks for a long time in a warm climates with smooth roads then when you have cold winters and frost heave roads to contend with. Time to replace them.

Oldschool, I never saw any directions to clean and wax them. Believe me I would have, the truck gets waxed 4 times a year. Anyway, thanks you guys. Take care Jake.

Guess I should have asked if they are 5100s? They have the wax portion in the last page of install manual.

Put some on my truck when I got it ~23,000 miles on it then and 50,000 now. They don't really shine until I put some weight in the truck or tow with it. Then they work very well. I actually got them to stiffin the ride as i went from an F150 that handled very well to an '07 Classic which does not. Should have gone NBS but the $ was right for the Classic and i didn't realize how much of a boat it was going to be.
