2" Lift Question

Recommended Posts

Hello all

I am considering getting a Tuff Country 2" lift kit that raises both front and rear. I am wondering if the factory shocks will have enough travel to allow the extra 2 inches without any danger of reaching their limit?

Does anyone know how a 2" would affect the stock shocks? Should I use extenders or replace with new longer shocks?

Edit: I also noticed the Tuff Country kit can either come with Rear Blocks or Add-a-Leaf. Is there a benefit to getting one or the other?

Also has anyone used a 2" lift that can give me any feedback on their experience with it? I found this Tuff Country one and a Zone 2" kit but liked the Tuff Country kit because it fully replaces the stock rear block instead of simply stacking a second block on top of the stock one.

Thanks for any feedback you can give.

Well, I have the 2" Zone kit and I'm very happy with it. When I purchesed mine, I was also considering the Tuff Country kit that you mentioned. I decided on the Zone kit for a few reasons that mattered to me.

1. The Zone kit was cheaper....and I'm a school teacher...so price is important, haha

2. The Tuff Country spacer goes above the spring/strut assembly, and the Zone spacer goes below....the ones that go underneath are easier to install than the top ones

3. The Zone kit gave the option of staking the blocks or replacing the factory block with the 2" block. I was undecided on how much rake I wanted....and the Zone kit gave me options.

As far as shocks go....2" is about the limit for the stockers. You may bottom them out offroad or even on the highway going over large bumps at high speed. I chose to upgrade to the longer, Zone hydro shocks because of this...and because I though the stock shocks were junk anyway.

For blocks vs add-a-leaf.....the AAL will increase how much weight you can put in the bed...or how much tongue weight you can have on a trailer...with out the rear end squatting as much (but, you'll still need to stay within your limits because the rest of your rig is still a 1500). The AAL will make the rear end ride a bit more firm....and there's also no guarantee to the exact height that the AAL will raise the truck, because it depends on how much the factory springs are sagged. So, if rear end squat is important to you, I would go AAL.....but if you think the stock springs are good enough...and you want to know the exact amout of lift before the install....then go with the blocks.

Also, I believe you can get 3" blocks from Zone Offroad instead of the 2"....you just have to call them. And....you can also call Rough Country and get their front 2" spacer and 3" blocks....they just don't advertise that as a pre-packaged kit.

Thanks for the info! I didn't know that I had the option of getting the zone kit with a one piece rear blocks instead of stacking them. I will check it out.

BTW, how happy are you with the 2" lift?

Thanks!

I checked with zone's sales and they informed me I could opt to purchase the 3 inch blocks but that they would not swap the 2 inch blocks in the kit for 3 inch versions :(

Having to buy the blocks in addition to the kit brings it to about the same price as the Tuff Country kit.

I'm very happy with the 2" kit....it changed the look of my truck completely. I get compliments on it quite frequently.

What about just buying the 2" level kit (for the front only) from Zone....and then adding a set of 3" rear blocks to your order. That's an easy solution if they won't swap them in a pre-packaged 2" front/rear kit.

Edit: You could also try the same with Rough Country. Their front spacer is almost identical to the Zone spacer.

I thought about doing that but it seems the blocks by them selves don't come with U-bolts. I'm not sure if those bolts are something I could just buy at an auto parts store.

Zone sells the U-bolts too. Actually they are the same as the 2" blocks from zone I think. Mine are really long and have to be cut but if i decide to go with a 3" block (still un decided) I am keeping them the length they are at.
