Preperation for Supercharging a Sierra 1500

Recommended Posts

I am relatively new to performance "street" trucks and need some input.

I plan to install a supercharger on my '02 Sierra SCSB/SS that currently has a 4.8 and and auto box.

Before the supercharger goes in, plans include an upgraded torque converter/shift kit, and something to defeat the stock programming for speed limiter, shift points, torque management, etc.

As far as the rest of the driveline goes, what should I do? This is a street truck/daily driver that will see some significant time at the track (1/4 mile).

I have heard the GM 10 bolt is not up to alot of track time with an LSD or Locker and some drag radials. So what should be done? Just drop in some Moser axles and a new diff? Or upgrade to a Moser 12 bolt?

Upgrading the diff is a must, as it is open right now. I am partial to the Detroit TrueTrac (from my offroading background) for LSD duties because of its all gear design and has no clutches to wear out. Any thoughts on this diff for 1/4 mile work? I also have given some thought to a Detroit Locker or an ARB airlocker (also have experience with these in 4x4 trail rigs). What about the other LSD's?

Finally, what is the optimal rearend ratio for 1/4 mile runs with these trucks with a supercharged engine/auto tranny/drag radials?

Thanks for any input, I appreciate it.
