Anybody comment on 6" lift ride quality, before and after?

Recommended Posts

I am getting ready to purchase a 6" suspension lift in my 2010 Silverado ext cab 1500, and from what I have read, Fabtech is the best kit available, any suggestions otherwise??

My biggest concern is retaining ride quality as close to factory as possible, price is not a big issue..

I'm hoping to get some feedback from some members who have installed these kits as far as the difference in harshness after the kit was put in.

Truck is basically new, and I own an auto repair shop, so install wont be too big a deal.

Thanks, Matt

Have any of you re-geared your trucks after you put the lift kit and tires on?

I plan on going with 35's.

My 1500 has a 5.3 with 3.42's.

I wont be doing any off roading, just city and some highway.

Just wondering if this turns it into a slug or is the power loss not too big of a deal.

I have a 4" lift and 33's, mine is a dog for real. I've been doing a bunch of research on gears also, and 4.56 or 4.88 seems to be what you need to get some power back.

I will have no problem installing the lift kit, but changing gears ft and rear is something I have never done myself, i am friends with a drivetrain service whom I refer customers to, probably talk to him about it. I would hate to have a hum in the drivetrain after doing all these mods.

i have seen several Rocky ridge conversions at dealerships on 1/2 tons on ebay, do they change gears on those?

I had my 02 Sierra running a '6 RDC lift and a '3 body lift. The ride was much better than stock and I think the main reason was because they used Bilstine shocks. You might want to re gear since the larger tires will slow you down a bit.

my bds kit made my truck ride ten times better than stock IMO, regearing it just made it more fun to drive,

X2. My BDS with fox shocks rides way better than stock. Haven't regeared yet but still undesided on it.

I'm with you Corey, thats the only thing delaying me from lifting my truck. I am going to test drive a couple rocky ridge conversions this week, just to see how noticeable the power loss is. I think they have both the 5.3 and 6.2 1/2 tons.

I was close to buying a 1500 with 6.2 in 2010, but I couldnt find one with the Lazer Blue metallic color, which was more important to me. My truck has 3.42's right now, and if I lift it, it will be a 6" lift with 35's.

BDS for ride quality. For those who say the ride is better lifted than stock, I don't see how. These trucks ride great but at the end of the day, they're still lifted with heavy wheels and tires. I regeared to 4.88 and my truck is fun to drive.

As far as gears go, an easy way to check what gears will put you close to stock is

New tire diameter X stock gear ratio = #

# / old tire diameter = exact ratio needed

In my case 35x3.73=130.55

130.55/30.5=4.28032787

Then just round the answer which ever direction you want 4.28 for me got rounded to 4.56...this will get you back close to stock since big wheels and tires weigh more gearing lower helps with performance

I'm pretty sure that a custom ecm/tcm cal from Blackbear Performance would not only correct your soon to be incorrect speedometer due to the huge tire size change, but also give you a little more power from the engine and better shifting from the trans as well. All for less than swapping out a set of ring and pinions. And this, is coming from the guy that ALWAYS changes his gear's when he installs big tires on a lifted truck but considering that you're just going to cruise it like a normal truck, I wouldn't want to open the diff's either, to be honest.
