Heater Hose Quick Disconnects

Recommended Posts

Truck is a 2001 Silverado 2500HD.. I received a call last night from the girlfriend, "there's smoke coming from under my hood". What I arrived to find was the plastic fitting on the inlet side of the heater core was snapped off and spewed a little coolant onto the engine. Using what I had in my truck, I cut off the outlet hose and spliced the two hoses together using a PVC hose barb to just bypass the heater and get the truck home. I know I have to get the removal tool to get the fittings off of the heater core tubes, but what do I do about the weird retainer clip on the outlet side? The inlet had a normal hose clamp on it, but the outlet has some kind of plastic ring clamp. I plan on just replacing both fittings as long as I'm under the hood. Would I be ok to just break that plastic clamp off and use a regular hose clamp on the new fitting? I'm ordering Dorman part # 800409 off of rockauto.com and it appears as though regular hose clamps would work just fine. Any insight is appreciated! I attached pictures of what broke, and the current status..

Edit: Are the inlet and outlet fittings the same piece? I just noticed RockAuto describes the aforementioned part number as the inlet fitting.
