Was looking at a other fourm and stumble on a not so smart question can a S10 tow like his serria 5.3l lol . The sad part was that the information the guy got was yes it can and you will be fine....... This was recommened from like 3 other people agreeing that he would be fine . This guy wanted to buy a cheap S10 and wanted to know if a 4.3l S10 will tow like his 5.3l and the ingorant people said he will be fine towing like up to 5000 pounds !!!. and that the s10 will tow like the 5.3l .

I dont understand why some S10 owners think there trucks are like full size trucks and than preach to the ingornant about lies like that . :nonod:

I like this fourm becuase their are some intelligent people that know what they are talking about and not just some random guy that will say somthing that he knows nonthing about .

There are a lot of people who seem to think if the truck can still move forward, then the load/trailer isn't too heavy. I've seen it tons of times and it is stupid and scary.

Oh, if you like ignorant people towing heavy loads Mike, you've moved to the right state. Wait until summer and jump on any of the interstates for some clean, fun, family entertainment. Especially if the gas prices keep climbing. Then you'll even see cars towing all kinds of stuff again. Like it was 1977. LOL.

I mean, I've seen an S-10 Blazer pull a 30' travel trailer a few summers back. It was also dead on the side of the interstate about 30 miles north of where I saw it with a large puddle of transmission fluid underneith it. Lucky he didn't light it up.

No, the Sonoma will not tow like a full size truck. But is rated for 5000 lbs. Some even rated at 5800 lbs.

Looking at a 1998 dealer brochure it is listed at..

Gross combination weight rating..

Vortec 4300 (LF6) 3.08 gear -8500 lbs, 3.23 gear-9000 lbs, 3.42 gear-9500 lbs, 3.73 gear-10,000 lbs.

Now that is weight of truck, plus passengers and trailer and any pay-load in the bed.

Back in the early 90s, I towed a 5000 lb trailer all over the south eastern USA with a Somona with out issue. I did use a weight distributing hitch.

Hell there is a volvo station wagon on base that tows about a 15ft trailer with a boat. I couldnt tell you if its capable or not, i just saw him hooked up and taking off.

I'm no expert on towing, but I wouldn't consider towing anything that weighs much more than my truck (5500-6000 lbs), regardless of the ratings on that thing. Just me.

looking at the specs http://www.new-cars.com/2002/chevrolet/chevrolet-s10-specifications.html

it says the grvw is up to 5150 pounds but its max trailer weight can be up to 6000 pounds ...... that does not make alot of sense . max pay load is 1389 curb weight up to 4000 pounds that is the max of everything if properly equiped .

Don't forget about the wood tailgate-to-hitch brace. That has to add a lot of load support
