What will you do????

Once again, the pundits are predicting we could see $5/gallon gasoline by Labor Day. We who drive trucks don't get the best fuel mileage. Without interjecting politics into the discussion, what will you do if we do see $5 gas/fuel??

Will you sell your truck and purchase transportation that gets better fuel mileage? Will you change driving habits? Will you drive less miles? How would higher priced fuel, if it does happen, affect your day to day life?

Personally, I am blessed to be paid for the miles I drive. Our firm is extremely generous with making sure we are reimbursed for the costs of driving trucks. Everyone doesn't have that same luxury. Just looking for some hearty discussion and to see how many would consider trading their Silverado for a Scion or Corolla!!! :>)

Speculators make this claim all the time. I'll deal with it. I bought the truck last year knowing $5/gal gas could be a reality. Canada already pays somewhere around $5/gallon and they've managed to survive.

Yup ....we are $1.18 a liter here. What I do is drive my 1.8 ltr old Volvo to work and whenever I can, and use my wife's Honda Fit (50 mpg!) also as much as possible. The truck is reserved for towing and play when needed. Sound like a lot of vehicles, but the Fit is a great future bet, and the Volvo is just cheap to insure and run, and it saves wear and tear on the SILVERADO.

I don't drive many miles a year so it POs me but doesn't affect me much directly. However the economy cannot sustain itself with $5 fuel so it will crash again. If it happens by early fall, there could be a silver lining in it.

I'm really not worried about it. Nothing you can do about the price of gas anyway. I know I will just keep driving like I do every other day. If you have a truck and are worried about the price of gas, you purchased the wrong vehicle. Should have got yourself one of those tiny smart cars.

Don't know why you would worry about something you have absolutely no control over. When they jack the prices up so the oil companies can get rich, all we can do it pay for it.

Great answers!! What I hear is that we love our trucks... we need our trucks... we will continue driving our trucks. Most of all, I enjoyed the last post where someone may even purchase a Camero. I'm waaayyy too old to be even thinking about a 2-door "kid's hot rod" type of car. The Dodge Challengers caught my eye. Then, I began noticing the new Cameros. Wow!! When my wife's Malibu needs to find a new home, somehow I'm going to get her into one of those!!!!!!

Yea its either going to be a 2SS vert or ZL1 coupe. Depends on finances and dealer allocations. I am up next at the local dealer but it looks like it will be a 2013.

Wow I haven't seen gas under $1/liter in Canada in quite some time. Granted I'm almost always in the more expensive parts of town when I visit (universities mostly) so that does throw things off a bit. 4 liters is about 1 US gallon and our currency is still hovering around parity last time I looked so call it $4/gallon. I paid $3.59/gal (so a bit shy of 90 cents/liter) this afternoon and that was one of the more expensive stations. The rest in the area are still in the $3.4x/gal range but I had been wicked busy all afternoon and just wanted to gas up and get home so I stopped at the first place I came to.

I am shopping for fryer oil to use!!! Or if it gets really bad I got a 17.2 hands tall 4 legged puller that I can hitch to the cart, he moves about 20 Mph so it should only take about 30 minutes to get to work instead of 15 like it does now in the truck. :jester:
