I was wondering how anyone could afford these trucks? those extra cabs and extended cabs cost a fortune. I make good money I can i can barely swing the lowest SLE with no options. granted i don't want a huge payment. I can do $800 a month, but who wants that. how are you swinging these huge trucks, are you all doctors and lawyers??? I was looking at a sierra for $29k, even if put down $7k, thats still over $400 a month. the huge trucks are way more than that. i don't know how people do it. i'm not looking forward to the next truck payment.

400 a month is awesome especially since that's about what I pay 398.73, yeah the finance company wanted bottom dollar payment to be exact lol but im not doc or lawyer, but military that looked for the best deal on a used 06 cc to haul the fam around in, it also helps when they give military discount.

My 2011 SLE extended cab 4x4 was right around $29,000. I got $9800 for my 2005 Dakota. I try to get a new truck every. 5 years or so because I don't want to pour money into a car or run it in the ground. My payments are a little over $400 a month. I try all sorts of ways to put extra cash away each month to justify the payment. I bring lunch from home, sell stuff on eBay, use cash bonuses from credit cards and any other creative ways I can think of. It may sound weird but it does add up as long as you stick with it. My wife does appreciate my thrifty ways at times and supported my Sierra purchase.

My wife and I choose to live in a modest size home in a low COL area of the US. And we both are fortunate enough to have good jobs that allow us to pay our bills, save for retirement, and buy our toys :driving: . I have worked hard to get us where we are, now I am just working to keep us in this position so we can keep enjoying it.

 

My truck listed for 46k. After rebates, incentives, and trade-in value from my 2007 Sierra, I ended up financing 34k. $550 a month payment. I pay an additional 50 every month on top of that.

Well, new truck prices are crazy. The dealers even know that, I never pay sticker, and never put anything out of pocket (trade is my down) and go dealer to dealer telling them what I want to pay. But if money is tight buy used, but they'll even try to screw you.

Nobody wants to hear this but the way to do it is to drive old vehicles, work on them yourself and have a plan to get out of debt. Once you get out of having any loans (and it may take years), things get a lot better. After that pay cash or don't buy.

a lot of people are ok with having huge car payments. i could easily afford a 600$ monthly payment but why would i do that when my truck runs perfect and is mechanicly sound. i may not have the prettiest or newest or best truck out there but all i pay is gas and insurance.

thanks, some good advice. i have a 2001 sierra sle but i'd like 4x4 for the winters and the boat. mine does run great and is paid off for about 6 years now. i had my daughter in school the last few years so the down payment went on hold for alittle.i'm getting a good down payment saved now, but wasn't sure whether to blow it all on the truck to keep my payment down. can't trade mine in because its not worth much. 2001 with 155k on it won't be worth much without 4x4. it'll have well over 155k when i get the new one later this year. i'll ask the dealer about a trade, but they'll usually tell me i'd be better off selling it myself. we'll see. i figure around $450 a month anyway.i'll have the new one till i retire, my old one went 192K before i got this one. they do run good. my buddy always busts my stones about GM. he has a dodge and that thing makes so much noise when i'm in it. my GM doesn't make a sound, even after 11 years. the used option never pans out. hard to find used the way i want it. everything is huge, because thats what they are leasing. i'd just like a SLE 4x4 with short bed with a few options, hard to find that used.

Buy used and certified. Let someone else take the huge $10000 cut from driving it off the lot.

 

 

Buying late model used isn't worth it right now. Trucks with say 15k-40k miles are barely cheaper than a new one with incentives. People didn'y buy as many trucks during the worst of the recession so the used market has less available and so prices are up.
